The world of Human Resources goes way back and has been noted to have begun in the early 20th century due to the work by a man named Frederick Taylor in lean manufacturing. One of his main focuses was workforce produc vity. Eventually, ideas grew and began to focus on financial compensa on, working condi ons, employee engagement, and organiza onal behavior.
In the early 1900’s, industrial and labor rela ons became the focus of Personnel Administra on offices. While labor organiza on decreased significantly in the later 1900’s, the power and influence of Human Resource Management did not.
The present of Human Resources is far from boring! Each day brings a new challenge. The focus of Human Resources today is more of a partnership with all func ons of an organiza on. Human Resources may be responsible for onboarding, training, developing, compensa on, benefits, performance appraisals, employer branding, fostering cultures and leadership, and suppor ng business needs by helping to minimize costs and reduce risks.
What will the future of Human Resources bring? What challenges will we face? How can we best prepare ourselves and our organiza ons for a world that is ever‐changing?
Our goals for the 2013 South Dakota State SHRM Conference are:
Past: Reflec ng on your past experiences and being cognizant of what worked and what didn’t
Present: Focusing on what your personal and organiza onal goals are and how you can maximize your strengths to be a be er Human Resource partner to your organiza on
Future: Looking at the future with an open mind; networking with other HR professionals to increase your knowledge; and crea ng goals that will make you an integral member in molding the future of Human Resources
