NEWSLETTER
TERM 3 WEEK 4, 2019
Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe
Friday 16th August, 2019 From The Principal
It’s been a busy few weeks at Holman Place School with many activities in the classrooms.
We wish Miss Brooke all the best as she moves onto her next adventure with Mulyan Public School. As she starts a new support class at the school, Miss Brooke takes with her many years’ experience at Holman Place and will remain in contact with us.
Mr John will be taking the class alongside Miss Ruth.
Education Week
We had a wonderful week celebrating our student’s achievements and success. I would like to thank all of the families that were able to make the open classrooms and joined us for a BBQ afterwards.
Review Meetings
During the last week, teachers and SLSOs met with families and other
support to review the last semester and look at forward planning for the next two terms.
Discussed were goals for the students including short, medium and long term plans as well as NDIS support being received.
Although this is a formal twice per year meeting, please know that if your child’s goals need to be amended at any time you can call the school to make a suitable time to discuss with your child’s teacher.
This also includes any change of medication or family situation that we need to be made aware of to help support the children at school.
Book Week
During Week 5, we will celebrate Book Week!
The theme of this year is ‘Reading is my Superpower’.
Students are encouraged to dress up as their
favourite character from a book on Thursday 22nd August.
P&C News
Thank you to the P&C for payment of the PCYC memberships. Students have been accessing on a Tuesday and Thursday with some great feedback from staff.
The P&C will be holding a Father’s Day Stall at school on Friday 30th August. Gifts will range in price from $2 up to $10.
Fundraising brochures will also be sent home soon – Growing Kits and Lifestyle. Orders and money are to be back to school by Friday 30th August.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday 3rd September at the Cowra Council. I encourage anyone who is available to come and join the team.
Thanks everyone!

Wombats
The Wombats continue to work well in Term 3. Last week we had IEP meetings. It was great meeting the Wombat’s parents during the IEP meetings and at our open classroom for Education Week.
Over the past weeks we have been learning the
alphabet through music that we sing along to.
The children have also been working relentlessly on their number skills in a fun way though games on Education.com and Splash Maths.
Last Tuesday we had a visit from Healthy Harold. The children loved engaging with the
activities and patting Healthy Harold.
We have also been very busy in Art and are currently working on a winter art project. We are all looking forward to seeing our final art products!

Both Sue and I enjoyed discussing your child’s IEP’s and setting goals for the rest of the year. It was great for me to finally meet parents and know we’re all on the same page, working together in the best interests of the children.
It was a pleasant surprise to see the work that was
done on the Open Day in Education Week during my absence.
This week is Book Week and we have begun reading the nominated texts. ‘Reading is my Secret Power’ is the theme for this year. Most of the books have animals and insects in them so we’ll be doing some mini-projects as a follow-up.
In Maths we have been excited with the games on Education.com which enable us to sharpen up our maths skills.
Later in the term, we will be joining the Goannas to visit Dubbo Zoo to look at some of the animals we have been learning about in Book Week.
Mrs Cathy & Sue
Goannas
Thank you to all the Goanna parents for coming into school to discuss your child’s IEP’s. It was great for Tash and I to catch up with everyone and set new goals for your children.
This term we have been enjoying all the books that have been nominated for the 2019
Book Week Awards. We have read Heads and Tail Insects, Noni the Pony Saves a Joey and The Rainbow Bear. The children have been giving each book a review, stars out of 5.
In maths we have been working on addition and subtraction. We have a new maths game Mathopoly, an adding
game of Monopoly. VERY TRICKY!!
At PCYC it has been amazing to watch the children’s confidence and agility develop in even three short weeks.
We are enjoying looking at the habitats and characteristics of various animals.

Emus
Thank you to all families who have been involved in the ongoing conversation about your child’s learning. It is so important to keep the lines of communication open at all times and I have enjoyed making goals with you during IEP review meeting process. Through collaboration
look forward to seeing you all in the community.
The Emu class is in great hands with Miss Ruth and Mr John taking the reins.
Term 3 is flying and I hope the following weeks are as exciting and fun filled as the first half of the term.
Miss Brooke & Ruth
we have been able to put into place goals that will support the students now and into the future.
My time at Holman Place has come to an end and I have loved being a part of you children’s lives. They have enriched my life and I thank you for sharing and entrusting your children with me. I wish them all the best in all future endeavours and I

Kangaroos
This term we are learning about how shops have changed over time. We have had a great time learning about old school shops by tasting food items for our Licorice Project that were purchased from Scoop Wholefoods in Orange. We have discussed how this shop is different to
