The word “ Hindu” came from the name of River Indus.
A Hindu is a person who believes in Hinduism.
Hinduism is the culture of India that grew out of the beliefs of Aryan peoples, it stresses the one main force connects all of life.
The Word “Hindu”
Hinduism has many holy books including 4 Vedas. The Vedas are the foundation of Hindu ideas.
Today Hindu priests read from Vedas, just like their ancestors did.
Vedas are also known as Books of Knowledge.
Holy Books
Hindus believe that everything has a soul. That is why very many Hindus are vegetarians.
Hindu families worship their favorite gods at home, temples, and at special festivals.
More than half of Hindus are vegetarians.

Hinduism has given birth to other cultures and religious movements.
Hinduism is still a living and growing religion.
Hinduism began in the blending of two cultures and honors many gods and goddesses.
Hinduism’s Culture
Hindus believe that Nirvana is a state of happiness.
Hinduism’s goal is to escape the cycle of rebirth by reaching Nirvana.
Hindus call this Nirvana “eternal bliss”.

The basic beliefs are rebirths or reincarnations and Karma.
Karma is the law of cause and effect.The Hindu belief that people can be
reborn after they die.

The mark on their forehead is a “bind”. It represents the third eye.The one focused on yourself toward god.

In our group we learned a lot of new things. We learned that Hinduism peoples are called “Hindus”. We also learned there were three people worshiped Shiva, Brahma, and Vishnu. The mark on there forehead is called a “bind”. Hindus believe that after they die they are reborn after you die.
