Page 18: Health Care

CONFIDENCE INTERVALS

for the proportionof people who are in favor of the healthcare bill

sample proportion 47%sample size 90.000

critical measure 1.960standard error 0.053 upper limit 57.0%lower limit 36.4%

To 95% certainty we can tell that between 36.4% and 57% of people are in favor of the health care bill

Hypothesis Tests

•All of our hypothesis tests were t- tests, as our sample size is only 90 people.

•More than half of the population understands the proposed health care bill    ▫One sampled hypothesis test

Page 20: Health Care

More than half of the population understands the proposed health care bill

•Null: half of the population understands the health care bill ▫µ= 50%

•Alternative: more or less than half of the population understands the healthcare bill ▫µ <> 50%

Page 21: Health Care

More than half of the population understands the proposed health care bill  • test statistic (obs) : 5.81 • critical measure : 1.99

▫ |obs| > critical? Yes

• p-value: 0.00000010 • a-level : 0.05

▫p-value < a-level? Yes

Therefore we reject the null: less than half of the population understands the health care bill

Page 22: Health Care

Hypothesis Tests

•Do men know more about the health care bill than females? ▫Two sampled hypothesis test

Page 23: Health Care

Do men know more about the health care bill than females?

•Null: Females know the same amount of information as males do ▫µ1=µ2

•Alternative: Males know more or less about the health care bill ▫µ1<>µ2

Page 24: Health Care

Do men know more about the health care bill than females?• test statistic (obs): (0.283) • critical measure: 1.987

▫ |obs| > critical?? No

• p-value: 0.778 • a-level: 0.050

▫p-value < a-level?? No

Therefore, we accept the null. Females know about the same amount of information as men do for the health care bill.

Page 25: Health Care

Hypothesis Tests

•50% or more of the population believes that illegal immigrants receive free health care? ▫One sampled hypothesis test

Page 26: Health Care

50% or more of the population believes that illegal immigrants receive free health care? •Null: 50% or more believe illegal

immigrants receive free health care ▫µ≥50

•Alternative: Less than 50% of the population does not belive illegal immigrants receive free health care ▫µ< 50

Page 27: Health Care

50% or more of the population believes that illegal immigrants receive free health care? • Test statistics(OBS): 13.27 • critical measure (tcrit): 1.66

▫is the |obs|> than the crit? Yes

• p-value: 1 • a-level: 0.05

▫is the p value < than the a level? No

•Therefore we accept the null that 50% or more of the population does believe immigrants receive free health care

Page 28: Health Care

Hypothesis Test

•Do females spend more on their healthcare? ▫Two-Sampled Hypothesis Test

Page 29: Health Care

Do females spend more on their healthcare? •Null: Females spend the same or more on

their health care as males.▫µ1≥µ2

•Alternative: Females spend less on their healthcare than men.▫µ1<µ2

Page 30: Health Care

Do females spend more on their healthcare?

• test statistic (obs): 0.459 • critical measure: 1.662

▫|obs| > critical? No

• p-value: 0.324 • a-level: 0.050

▫p-value < a-level? Yes

•Therefore we accept the null that females spend the same or more on their health care as men do

Page 31: Health Care

Does having children affect how much you pay for health care?•Regression Testing

▫Null: Having children affects what you pay ▫Alternative: Having children does not

affects what you pay

0.00000000000000000000000000002 •X Variable P- Value: 1.00

▫Therefore, we reject the null; having children does not affect how much you pay for health care.

Conclusion

•We determined that there is no major difference between males and females when it comes to understanding the healthcare bill and also how much they pay for health care.

Page 35: Health Care

Conclusion

•In research we did prior to our survey we found out that 62 percent of uninsured people who received free health care were illegal immigrants.▫In our tests we discovered that more than

half the population is aware that illegal immigrants receive free health care.

Page 36: Health Care

Conclusion

•We also determined that people who have children do not pay anymore for their health care.

•Our most surprising finding was that less then half the population understands the health care bill.

Page 37: Health Care

Things we could have done different?

•We could have informed people about the bill before we survey them and then asked them what they thought of the bill.

•Should have asked how much each person spent in the past month on health care as many people did not know specific numbers for the whole year.
