To start, click "Start Analysis" button on this page or click on the “Inputs” tab at the bottom of this excel window and enter the required information for the analyzed intersection. "Phasing Design" specify the orders of signal phases and rings. “Parameters” worksheet requires no inputs but data modification is allowed. Default parameters for intersection condition are extracted from HCM 2010 and listed in this worksheet. It is recommended to use local parameters if available.
This tool only considers pre-timed signalization type and automobile mode. The impacts of conflicts between pedestrian and vehicles and bicycles and vehicles on intersection capacity are not considered. Approach and intersection control delay includes both uniform delay and incremental delay. Extra delay due to initial existence of queue prior to analysis period is not specified. The automatic calculation process in "Analysis" worksheet is read-only and modification on these cells is disabled. The analysis results are summarized in "Outputs" worksheet.
The instructions and definitions of variables or parameters can be found in pop-out comment box, which may assist in guiding users through the process of entering data and understanding the outcomes. Please enable Marco feature in order to run this model.
Disclaimer:This analysis tool implements the procedures defined in Chapter 18 and Chapter 31 of the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM 2010) to determine delay and LOS for pre-timed signalized intersections. All values reported in this analysis tool are estimates. Actual performance may vary and the author of this tool will in no way be held accountable for practical results that differ from the estimates provided by this tool.
