A Neami co-design project
However, when it comes to offering treatment, different service providers have focused on one or two aspects of the model that sits within their
expertise, which meant people had to navigate a fragmented
mental health system to address their needs.
Changes to funding in the NSW mental health sector meant that community based service providers were asked to play a greater role
in managing medication for consumers.
For staff at Neami National, there were mixed feelings about how
this would impact on their role in supporting people…
The biopsychosocial model of health recognises the interconnection between biology, psychology and
socio-environmental factors that contribute to peoples
experience of mental illness.
Co-design is more than
collaborative problem solving; it gives voice and
authority to the people most effected
by decisions.
