Green Buildings
A green building is environmentally friendly. Its is resource efficient and environmentally responsible throughout the buildings life cycle. i.e: siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and demolition.
What is a Green Building?
Reduces waste
Reduces pollution
Energy and water efficient
Protects occupants health
Resource efficient and responsible
Design features in green buildings.
Un-green Buildings
Buildings like the one
on the right(dayboy
bathrooms) are un-
green because there
is very little natural
light that is let in.
This means that the
building uses more
energy to provide
sufficient light. It
would be a lot better
to make the windows
larger to create more
natural light.
Un-green Building
This is un-green due to the
fact these lights are shining
all day unnecessarily. I
would create more natural
light to ensure there is
enough light during the day,
or you could use motion
sensing lights so that they
only come on when
somebody is inside.
Un-green Buildings
This is an un-green
building site because it is
not resource efficient. All
the resources are being
left unused. Use all the
resources, even if in
another area, so that
there will be none left
over.
Un-green buildings
This feature of the
building makes it un-
green. This feature(air-
con) makes it un-green
because it uses up
unnecessary energy.
Using something like a
fan will create a similar
effect but use less
energy. It will obviously
be better if nor a fan or
an air-con were used but
sometimes these things
are a necessity.
Un-green Buildings
This is very bad because
it is wasting energy
extremely unnecessarily.
This light is on in the
middle of the day when
the sun was shining
brightly. I suggest that a
motion sensing light is
put on or a light on a
timer so that the light
will only shine when
necessary so that
energy will not be
wasted.
Un-green BuildingsThis may not contribute
harmfully to the environment but
it could certainly be improved. If
there was some sort of
catchment at the bottom of this
pipe there would not be any
wastage of water which will help
in conserving water.
This is an example of the amount
of water that is wasted.
Green Buildings
This is a green building
because natural material
has been used to make it.
This is better because
using synthetic material
damages the environment
more than using a
renewable
resource(wood) will.
Green Buildings
This is a green design
because a natural resource
has been used to make this
wall. This is dry wall that has
been formed in such a way
that it can withstand the
weight of the building. This is
also a cheaper method to
use and it uses resources
very efficiently.
Green Buildings
This is a god feature for
the building to have
because it uses resource
very efficiently. It uses
less energy than a
normal light, creates the
same amount of light
and it also lasts for
longer. This is more
expensive but it is
definitely worth it if you
are looking at it from an
energy perspective.
Green Buildings
This is a very good example
of natural light. The more
natural light there is the less
man-made light there is that
needs to be used. This
creates a huge energy
saving and will also save a
lot of money in the long run
because of the energy
saving.
ConclusionAfter going around the
school taking photos of
green and un-green
features of the school
buildings. We conclude that
there are more un-green
features around the school
but the school is moving
steadily forward to become
a greener place.
