4 Gartner IT Infrastructure Operations & Data Center Summit 2013
AGENDA TRACKS
A Enable Business Growth, Productivity and ContinuityThis track is designed to discuss the impact of key disruptive forces such as Cloud, mobility and big data on IT and business at large. Mobility as a productivity enabler and Cloud as a growth driver are among the top three IT priorities among Indian organizations and Gartner analysts will provide best practices of embracing these. With these disruptions, CIO’s are increasingly concerned about securing their corporate data and assets and this track will touch on IT security and risk coupled with business continuity. I/O managers will have an opportunity to gain leadership coaching on effectively engaging with business and IT leaders.
B Data Center Technologies — Achieving Higher Levels of Effi ciency and FlexibilityVirtualization is enabling the journey towards private cloud among the Indian organizations to drive effi ciency, agility and cost rationalization. While embarking on this journey, data center managers are constantly challenged by the disruptions created by the wider acceptance of BYOD and new mobility variants including virtual desktops. This track is intended to provide insights on the impact on virtualization and cloud on the IT infrastructure with a focus on improving agility. While I&O leaders and their teams need to continue investing signifi cant resources and time on traditional servers, storage and networking for existing initiatives, they will also have to start evaluating how to transform their infrastructure and organizations to meet upcoming needs. Convergence of infrastructure technologies and vendors would be another highlight of this track coupled with management of data explosion.
C Delivering IT Operational Excellence and Driving Business ValueA balanced approach towards IT operations management (ITOM) can improve the quality of service and empower IT to better manage business risks and deliver effi ciency. This track will represent all the technology, tools and frameworks needed to manage the provisioning, capacity, performance and availability of the computing, networking and application environment, aiming towards a service and business-oriented I&O as a long-term target-state. Impact of virtualization and cloud computing on the overall operations framework and management vendor landscape will also be discussed in this track. Data center infrastructure management processes and tools with a focus to streamline data center operations and provide cost effi ciency will be covered in the agenda. Attendees will also learn best practices of designing the right metrics, dashboards and tools to improve their visibility with their IT executives and line of businesses.
VIRTUAL TRACKS
Cost Optimization — I&O investments run into the tens of millions of dollars and have to be managed over a 10-20 year period. This track will focus on how to create the appropriate fi nancial controls, governance policies and organizational structures to run a world class data center. Specifi cally, we will focus on data center economics, software licensing agreements, sustainability and procurement. This track will help you get the best from the millions of dollars you invest in your data center.
Impact of Mobility on I&O — Evolution or Revolution? Data Center and mobility are intertwined more than I&O leaders think. The proliferation of hundreds of new handsets and tablets and new services (e.g. social networking) that have emerged and are emerging will have an impact on the Data Center infrastructure, content, risk and management. This track will identify the dramatic changes happening in this environment and how the Data Center environment needs to adapt to accommodate this change without stifl ing innovation or dramatically increasing costs.
Cloud Computing — both Private and Public — has become the latest in a series of hot industry terms and as such, is used in many contradictory ways. Underneath the fog, there are very real trends such as service orientation, global class architecture, Web platforms, massively scalable processing, virtualization and the Internet itself that are converging to fuel this phenomenon. Sessions in this virtual track examine the impacts felt on I&O and how it will need to evolve to deal with the changes, both real and those resulting from the hype.

KEYNOTES
Gartner Opening Keynote: Top 10 Strategic Technologies for 2013: Will You Be Able to Manage Them (Before They Manage You)? Big Data. Cloud Computing. App Stores and Mobile-Centric Applications. The Internet of Things. These are a few of the technological developments that Gartner has identifi ed as strategic for 2013. The question is, will enterprises be able to prevent the potential unintended consequences arising from their adoption? This session will explore the manageability implications arising from the emergence of these new technologies.
• What are the key technologies for 2013?
• How will enterprises ensure their manageability
Rakesh Kumar and Naveen Mishra
Gartner Keynote: Rethink Infrastructure and Operations to Dramatically Reduce Costs
Infrastructure and operations executives are constantly under pressure to reduce costs — in good and bad economic times. The advent of hyperscale public computing approaches have many I&O executives being challenged as to why they cannot run their operations like an Amazon or Google, or simply have them run on these massive public cloud infrastructures. But are their approaches more cost-effi cient? Can they deliver better qualities of service? This presentation will help I&O executives architect an overall strategy for leveraging the innovations of public cloud offerings — without the demands of massive scale — to radically drive down costs to the business.
• What do the major cloud provider architectures look like?
• How can enterprises drive toward these cloud architectures?
Milind Govekar
Gartner Closing Keynote: CEO/CIO Survey 2013: What Business Leaders Expect from ITWhat should business leaders think about — and how should they act on — the grand promises of information and technology? These leaders are supposed to be the great drivers of business performance improvement — raising competitive advantage and delivering productivity gains. Our annual survey of CEOs and other senior business executives in user organizations sheds light on how they think, so we can diagnose what’s going on. Our survey identifi es that CEOs are showing more interest in newer capabilities enabled by mobile, social and cloud, and that they have a positive intent towards IT investment and innovation management.

Alumni Cloud Computing Cost Optimization Impact of Mobility on I&O Procurement and Vendor Management
Next-Generation Data Center — Creating Scalable, Energy-Effi cient EnvironmentsMany of the data centers all over the world are obsolete because they have insuffi cient power, cooling or fl oor space. Managing these variables is like 3 dimensional chess. But without a structured program of balancing these dynamic forces, organizations will be forced into major changes and signifi cant costs. This presentation gives guidance on how this should be done.• What will tomorrow’s data center look
like? • What are implications of insuffi cient
power, cooling and fl oor space in your data center.
• Tactical guidance for managing power, cooling and fl oor space.

Are Indian Data Centers Ready for Fabric-Based Infrastructure? The concept of “fabrics” has been emerging over the past four years as a means to converge separate storage, networking and server technology in the data center. This presentation examines the business case for infrastructure convergence, and charts the likely evolution of the market for fabric-based infrastructures, to help IT leaders determine the most appropriate vendor approach.• What is fabric computing and its impact
on DC transformation?• How should IT organizations evaluate
vendors’ convergence promises?• What steps should IT take to evaluate
the benefi ts and risks of fabric architectures?
Andrew Butler
To the Point: Storage in the New EraStorage has changed so dramatically that previous rules and practices may no longer ensure optimum results as organizations seek improved levels of service, agility and availability of their data. In the next fi ve years business requirements will push IT to examine new storage capabilities, architectures and improved management techniques in order to address the ever increasing demands for storage.
• What business trends will affect storage in the next fi ve years?
• What are the pros and cons of the options that will be available for the storage infrastructure of the future?

client OS and offi ce software and why?• How should organizations plan investments
in Microsoft Windows and Offi ce to maximize benefi ts and minimize costs?
• What should organizations do to ensure effective migrations to Windows 7, Windows 8, and new versions of MS Offi ce?
Leif-Olof Wallin
Virtualization 2.0: Servers and BeyondVirtualization has changed everything, so what do you do next? Do you do more do you do things differently? Fabrics and integrated infrastructure leverage
virtualization and become ‘ideal’ foundation for virtualized workloads. But don’t forget the server hosts And the non virtualized workloads. There is still a virtual gap of 20% that requires more virtualization.• How will virtualization drive technology
convergence?• How is virtualization changing IT
organizations and processes?• How is the convergence changing the
vendor landscape?
Naveen Mishra
To the Point: Data Center Network Evolution: From Switches to FabricsThis will address some of the major network challenges that data center infrastructure managers face in their data center network evolution as they invest in emerging technologies such as server virtualization, data center/server consolidation, desktop virtualization, cloud and converged storage. Emerging solutions and vendor landscape will be covered too.• What are the key network challenges for
the evolving data center infrastructure?• What new solutions try to address these
challenges?• Who are the key vendors of such
solutions and how to respond to their offerings?
Naresh Singh
To the Point: How to Plan for Unix Migration? As the boundaries between the best of Unix and the best of Windows or Linux become ever closer, and with some Unix vendors edging ever closer to active endorsement of migration strategies, we examine the market dynamics for Unix servers, with a view to both guiding migration planning efforts and demonstrating the use cases where Unix still has a role to play.• What market forces are driving the
evolution of Unix and Linux? • What strategies will vendors use to resist
or accelerate change?• How should organizations choose the
most appropriate platforms for mission-critical workloads?
