NEW DELHI, Apr 14:

Though there was no farehike proposal in the RailBudget this time, passengerswill have to cough up more fortravelling on new trains withadded facilities in the comingdays.

Railways is gearing up tointroduce a few special serviceswith improved passengeramenities for which the regularfares will not be applicable,according to a senior RailwayMinistry official.

As per the plan, new trainswith brand names likeHumsafar, Tejas and UtkrishtDouble-decker Air-conditionedYatri (UDAY), are likely to bepressed into service this yearwith the hike in fare rangingbetween 15 and 30 per centover the regular tariff.

All these trains wereannounced in the Rail Budget2016-17 and the routes and des-tinations of these services arebeing worked out.

Railways have alreadylaunched Suvidha trains ondynamic fare system.

"Suvidha trains are run peri-odically to cater to the growingdemand on certain routes," theofficial said adding "thesetrains are demand-driven so thefare goes up with increaseddemand."

While all coaches inHumsafar will have AC three-

tier coaches, the Tejas trainswill have a 130 km/hour speed.UDAY are newly designedDouble-decker trains with 40per cent higher carrying capac-ity.

All these new trains willhave improved passengeramenities in the speciallydesigned coaches so the fareswill also be on the higher side,the official said.

Railways have recentlyintroduced Mahamana Expressand Gatimaan Express. Sinceboth trains have improvedamenities, fares are also higherthan the regular service.

Passengers do not mindpaying more if the service isalso better, he said.

Besides, the special trains todeal with the festive rush dur-ing Christmas season, Chhath,Holi, Durga Puja and duringKumbh Mela will also havespecial fares, higher than theregular trains. (PTI)
