10th Sunday after Pentecost August 18th, 2019 From the Desk of the Pastor…
Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory Forever!
Dear Friends,
What a marvelous time it is, these festival days! Seeing so many people, both familiar
and new, come into our church really reminds me of what God’s kingdom is going to
be like. There we will see old family and friends, as well as countless new ones. We’ll
learn of all the prodigious deeds of faith and love that myriads of people did for the
glory and praise of Christ, often in secret and with nobody to tell. On that great day
we’ll learn how hard certain people worked to spread the glory of God on earth. On
that great day all the gaps will be filled, and I’m speaking about those connections we
cannot make in this life between people and things that leave us hanging and
questioning. In God’s presence, it will all be revealed. We’ll know God as He truly is,
and we’ll understand each other in the light of God because we are all made in His
image and likeness. “Now I get it!” will probably be the most heard expression in
heaven (after Alleluia).
Our parish festival serves as a springboard. People come here for the social and are
given a push into the spiritual. You see, through the connections made here, the good
food they taste, the good music they hear and the friendly atmosphere they experience,
these many new faces hopefully take away from it a sense of Holy Trinity as a place to
which they hope to return, much like migratory birds do to a fresh watering hole. As
you see new and familiar faces, make a point to invite them back again: not next year,
but next week. We all seek to belong to a group of like-minded people who will love
us, care for us, hold us accountable and show genuine concern for our well-being of
body, soul and mind. During this festival, let’s all take advantage of the good
atmosphere and make a point of invite others to join our spiritual family here in
Carnegie. God did tell us to be fruitful and multiply, so let us go out of our way today
and invite someone to come to Holy Trinity each week on our way to church.
In Christ,
Jason, priest and sinner.

Gospel for the 10th Sunday after Pentecost (Matthew 17:14-23)
Jesus Cures a Boy with a Demon
14 And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and kneeling before him said, 15 “Lord, have
mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and he suffers terribly; for often he falls into the fire, and often into
the water. 16 And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not heal him.” 17 And Jesus answered, “O
faithless and perverse generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him
here to me.” 18 And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured
instantly. 19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” 20 He said to
them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will
say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to
you.”[b]22 As they were gathering[c] in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of man is to be delivered into the
hands of men, 23 and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day.” And they were greatly
distressed.
