semestres posteriores.
Mediante nuestros diversos talleres de
diseño, los estudiantes serán desafiados
con proyectos sociales y comerciales,
aplicando sus conocimientos para dar re-
sultados adecuados y responsables ante la
sociedad. Estos talleres de diseño estarán
complementados por materias contextu-
alizadas en; historia, análisis, animación,
video, web, mercadotecnia y soluciones
interdisciplinarias de diseño, las cuales
serán el complemento perfecto para el
crecimiento educativo.
A su vez, Publicidad, Branding y Empaque,
Diseño de Información y Diseño Editorial son
las cuatro concentraciones profesionales que
otorgan un amplio rango de oportunidad
para los egresados, dando una ventaja lab-
oral única en el mercado internacional.

After making a worldwide investigation about
the best graphic design educative and profes-
sional programs, we developed an academic
program that makes a difference among the
ones that have been explored in Latin America.
Hard work has been done to validate the mix
within the profession, we know we have a
tremendous responsibility as an education in-
stitution in our society and we prove it in our
program as we shape students that are able to
find solutions that contribute and influence
visual communication processes.
Graphic Design undergraduates of the Univer-
sity of Monterrey will be design strategists, and
through research, theory and practice will find
solutions, from a sketch, a software, print or
digital media. They will face the challenge of
image and text every day by solving it through
an appropriate message for their target.
Our program starts with a direct approach
to traditional drawing techniques and visual
thought. Since the first day of college, students
submerge themselves in the study of Graphic
Design as a discipline that demands long hours

of work. The concentration developed at the
begining of the career allows them to construct
a firm base on which they can consolidate
their understanding of identity, information,
strategy and practice of later semesters.
Among our many design studios, students
will be challenged with commercial and
social projects, where they will apply all their
knowledge in order to reach an appropriate
and responsible result. These studios will have
complementary subjects focused in: history,
analysis, animation, video, web, marketing,
and interdisciplinary solutions that will com-
pliment perfectly for the professional growth
of every student.
Branding, Packaging, Information Design,
and Editorial Design will be the four concen-
tration areas that will grant a wider range of
opportunity for undergraduate students giving
them an unique labor advantage.

I remember walking into the lecture space the day
after we arrived and being surprised at how large
the conference was. I’ve spoken at AIGA events
in the USA which are pretty large, but this was
gigantic and quite terrifying. The stage was huge,
and I remember being nervous when I first walked
across it. At the end of the lecture I remember one
of the students asked me for advice...half joking I
said: 'Always listen very closely to your teachers...
and then do the opposite!' .

He
bien a tus maestros… ¡Y después haz lo opuesto!' ”.

Los viajes de estudio son una oportuni-

La UDEM contempla el intercambio de
conocimientos y experiencias profe-

Semestralmente los alumnos de Diseño

viaje tienen la oportunidad de conocer
instituciones participantes y experimen-
tar la rutina de algún departamento de
diseño. El alumno descubre programas
diferentes, comparte experiencias profe-

Algunos de los talleres impartidos en
estos viajes han estado relacionados

experimental y serigrafía. A si mismo en
estos viajes el estudiante visita estudios

contactos para oportunidades futuras.

department, get to know different programs, share profes-

My visit to UDEM was an eye-opener! Rarely
have I experienced such a vitality and “can-

informed about contemporary regional and
global design issues, and were able to trans-
late these ideas seamlessly into their individ-

congrega y desarrolla el mejor talento
creativo, consolidándose como la sede
de la formación, creación y preserva-
ción del arte, arquitectura y el diseño
en América Latina. El Centro Roberto
Garza Sada (CRGS) fue diseñado por
Tadao Ando, Premio Pritzker 1995 y
uno de los arquitectos más reconoci-
dos en el mundo. El hecho de que él
haya aceptado diseñar el edificio del
Centro, su primera obra en Latinoa-
mérica, refleja la trascendencia del
proyecto. El edificio cuenta con 13 mil
115.48 metros cuadrados de construc-
ción, distribuidos en espacios para
el diseño, investigación, docencia y
exhibición, así como 22 laboratorios y
talleres.

What we call Studio is the the way we want
work in the future at the CRGS. Students have
to submit a portafolio where they are previ-
ously selected. Once the group is formed by
an evaluation comitee, the students work in a
personalized space that allows them to interact
in a more intense enviroment with their fellow
student, teachers, and design. This project has
been working for 2 years and has obtained
great results including international awards.
At the end of every semester there is an exhibi-
tion of their work called Open Studio and it is
open for the public in general.
