ADT Fire & Securitys FM200 systems are based on manyyears experience in the design, supply, installation andcommissioning of gaseous fire fighting systems. We were amajor supplier of Halon fire fighting systems for over 20 years.During this time Halons have provided industry and commercewith a unique and versatile extinguishant to respond to most fireprotection needs.
The Montereal Protocol prresented the fire protection industrywith a most demanding challenge - to find a replacement forHalons. ADT Fire & Security evaluated a large number ofcandidate agents over several years before selecting FM200.

FM200
FM200 (HFC 227ea) is known chemically asHeptafluoropropane and is manufactured by Great LakesChemical Corporation.
FM200 is a colourless gas which is liquified under pressure forstorage. Like Halon 1301 it has a low toxicity level and issuperpressurised with Nitrogen to 24.8bar (360psi). It rapidlyextinguishes most commonly found fires through a combinationof chemical and physical mechanisms.
Environmental Features
FM200 contains no bromine or chlorine and therefore has zeroOzone Depleting Potential (ODP).
The atmospheric lifetime of FM200 is between 31 and 42 yearswhich along with its zero ODP presents a long-term solution tofire protection requirements.
Safety
FM200 has been found to be less toxic than Halon 1301, whichmakes it safe for use in the fully automatic mode in occupiedareas.
Typically FM200 requires a design concentration of 7%, whichis well below the 9% No Observable Adverse Effect Level(NOAEL) on cardiac sensitisation. The NOAEL for Halon 1301 isonly 5% (the same as its design concentration).
Applications
FM200 is immediately available to protect most hazardstraditionally protected using Halon 1301.
It is effective in the protection of data processing, telecommunications and electronic equipment as well as mostflammable liquids and gases.
Replacing Halon with FM200
Existing Halon and CO2 control systems meeting therequirements of the relevant national or international standardsare ideally suited for use with FM200 and can be modified tooperate as part of an FM200 system.
Due to the differences in concentration and physicalcharacteristics between the gases it will be necessary to changethe container valve and nozzles and probably the pipework andstorage containers in carrying out a retrofit of an existing system.
However, due to the similarities in the equipment, changing fromHalon or CO2 to FM200 can be accomplished with minimaldisruption and little or no system downtime.

FM200 - Gaseous Fire Fighting Systems
Storage
Compared with Halon 1301, FM200 systems require minimaladditional floor storage space, if any.
The physical properties of FM200 together with its efficientextinguishing capabilities allow it to be used in similar types ofequipment to Halon. As the extinguishing abilities of FM200
determine that only 70% more agent by weight is required, thedemands for additional storage space requirements areminimal.
Halon Recycling
ADT Fire & Security has invested in Halon recycling facilities andis able to decommission existing systems in an environmentallyresponsible manner.
Room Integrity Testing
Room Integrity Testing has become an important feature of thecommissioning of gaseous fire fighting systems. The Integrity Testis performed to check that rooms can maintain a sufficientextinguishing agent concentration for the required holding time.
Room Integrity Testing can also be included as part of servicingagreements and is very strongly recommended on newinstallations.
Servicing
ADT Fire & Security have a dedicated Extinguishing SystemsService Team operating nationwide. Contact is provided throughour area offices which operate a 24-hour, 365-days-ayearemergency service network.
We are able to carry out routine maintenance on all ADT Fire &Security and third party extinguishing systems and are able tooffer advice to our clients on the statutory requirements of thePressure Systems and Transportable Gas Containers Regulations.
We can carry out the work required under the above regulationssuch as the periodic inspection of containers, in most caseswithout system downtime.
With our modern filling plant we are able to refill all ADT Fire &Security and most third party containers.
Quality Assured
As a leading fire protection company with operations in the USA,Europe, the Middle East and Asia, the Extinguishing Systemsoperation, including comprehensive filling, testing anddistribution facilities is approved to ISO 9000 at our Loughtonfacility near London, U.K.
