OUR SCHOOL VALUE FOCUS THIS FORTNIGHT IS
SAFE
Dear parents and carers, It is hard to believe that term 4 is upon us already! I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday with his or her families. I spent my holidays visiting my son Alec and his partner Natasha who live in Munich. What a different life it is living in a single bedroom flat in the heart of a European city. Everyone in Munich rides a bike or travels by train or tram to work, school or just to the shops. Even the dogs of all shapes and sizes can be seen travelling in carts at the front of bikes. Munich has a large number of attractive parklands and the Isar
River, one of the largest rivers in Bavaria flows through the city. We
travelled through picturesque farmlands, where the cows all wear
bells, to reach the Bavarian Alps and a mountain lake called
Tegernsee. The Bavarian lakes are popular for locals and tourists
alike. Hiking in the Alps and water sports are popular in summer
and of course snowboarding and skiing in winter, one of my son’s
favourite past times. It was great catching up with my son and
experiencing a different way of life.
ELF Day ELF Day is held each year to encourage reading and an enjoyment of literacy. The storeowners and workers in Yea shared a favourite storybook with the children and dressed up as book characters. We also attended Yea Primary School who organised a presentation by a book illustrator. These workshops help inspire our budding writers and illustrators to add to their own creations on their return to school. Promoting Positive Behaviour The results from the 2019 parent opinion survey showed improvement in student engagement in learning and greater school connectedness, pride and confidence. One area that was lower than expected was in the category, Promoting Positive Behaviour.

At Flowerdale Primary School, we promote positive behaviours through the School Wide Positive Behaviour Strategy. We have a whole school behaviour matrix, which outlines the positive behaviours we expect from students in the classroom, playgrounds, at assembly or on the bus. Students are taught these behaviours through daily modelling and reminders and through weekly explicit teaching times. Positive behaviours are acknowledged through stickers, raffle tickets, certificates and rewards such as having a hot chocolate with the principal or helping in the kinder or playgroup. If you have any questions about the program or would like to be a parent representative at SWPBS meetings please let me know. All members of our school community are welcome to assist in building a safe and positive culture for our school. I will be holding an information evening for parents later in the school term.

Our Buddy of the Month was Harley!
Congratulations to Harley for working hard to demonstrate the values of Being Safe, Being
Responsible, Being Respectful and Being a Learner throughout August!
On the school holidays I was lucky enough to
save my first baby Joey. Mum was gone but the
baby still warm, although I don't think she
would have lasted much longer as she had been
hit quite a while ago.
Experiencing the feeling of saving something
vulnerable is such a good feeling. So folks
check those pouches. It takes only a few
minutes to stop and check. Don't leave it to
others because others may think the same. If we
can be the eyes, we have the carers to do the
caring.
I’ve named the joey Rosary.

On the school holidays I went on a five day camp to Camp Howqua in Mansfield. It was just me who got to go from my family! On camp I did archery, a mud course and a movie night. I also went on a flying fox! I enjoyed crate-stack climbing and almost reached the top before the crate tower wobbled and I fell off. I also swam in the River Howqua (that’s where the camp’s name comes from). The activity that I liked the most was archery. I shot an arrow into the rim of the bullseye. So that was pretty exciting! I’d love to go again! By Jake S
