Fiction is a type of genre
Fiction is make- believe. It is not true.
Fiction is written from the author’s
imagination.
Some examples of Fiction are: fairy
tales, folktales, and poems.
Fiction is often read for pleasure or for fun.

Nonfiction
Nonfiction is a type of genre.
Nonfiction is true. It contains facts and
information.
Nonfiction usually tells about people,
subjects, or events.
Nonfiction books usually contain a table of contents, glossary, and index.
Table of Contents
A Table of Contents tells on what page number different topics in the book can be found.

Glossary
A Glossary contains key words that are related to the topic
and their definitions.

Glossary
blowhole- an opening on the top of a whale’s head.
breach- to jump out of the water.flipper- a flat limb with bones on a sea
animal.mammal- a warm-blooded animal with a
backbone.
Index
An Index lists all the big ideas and key words in the book and the page numbers where they
are explored.

Nonfiction texts also contain photographs, captions, labels, and charts or graphs.

A label tells what something is.
