Fickle Lake Provincial Recreation Area (PRA) wasexpanded by over ten square kilometres (1,152hectares) to include the entire lake and adjacentuplands. Now 11.52 square kilometres (1,152hectares), this PRA is situated in the lower foothills,southwest of Edson.

A PRA supports a wide variety of recreationalpursuits, and contributes to the preservation goal ofAlberta's parks and protected areas network.

Site Description and LocationFickle Lake PRA is located about 31 kilometressouthwest of Edson off Highway 47, in the FoothillsNatural Region.

The area surrounding Fickle Lake displayscharacteristics of both Foothills and Boreal NaturalRegions, which support mixed wood forests oflodgepole pine, aspen poplar and white spruce.

Significant Features Fickle Lake PRA contains valuable riparian habitat,providing important nesting sites for bald eaglesand osprey. The lake supports a recreational fisheryfor northern pike, lake whitefish, walleye and yellowperch.

The site is an oasis for wildlife including bear,moose and deer. As well elk occasionally passthrough the area. Loons, horned grebes, red-neckedgrebes, and a variety of ducks make the lake theirhome. Muskrat and beaver can also be viewed.

Recreational ActivitiesFickle Lake PRA is situated in a beautiful area thatmany nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts willappreciate.

Campground (44 campsites) and day-use facilitiesare available at Fickle Lake PRA. Fishingenthusiasts have been coming to the site for years,trying their luck during both summer and winter.Although the campground is closed during thewinter, the road to the lake and parking lot ismaintained allowing easy access for ice fishing.

A boat launch and dock are available, as well as twosmaller landing areas on the lake. A fish-cleaningstand is located near the main dock. This quiet lakeis ideal for paddling around and finding peace andquiet.
