What is Equilibrium?O Equilibrium is defined as the state of a body
when it is at rest or in a non-accelerated motion when all the resultant force acting on it are zero and also when the sum of all torques about an axis are zero.
Conditions for Equilibrium
O The resultant forces acting on a body must be equal to zero.
O The resultant moment of forces acting on a body, in all points must be zero.
Principles of Moments
O When a body is in equilibrium, the sum of all anticlockwise moments of any points must be the same as the sum of all clockwise moments of the point.
CoupleO When two parallel forces
which are equal and opposite are not acting on the same line, a couple is formed.
O The moment of couple is equal to the product of either force and the perpendicular distance between the line of action of both the forces.
