The aim and objectives
Aim
Improving the conservation status and supporting the natural processes in Natura 2000
sites: Forest and eutrophic marshes from Prejmer (ROSCI0170) and Fortress Hill
Lempes – Harman marsh (ROSCI0055)
Objectives
Restoration of favorable vegetation conditions for the alluvial forests with Alnus glutinosa
and Fraxinus excelsior (habitat 91E0*);
Ecological restoration and conservation of Prejmer and Harman marshes (habitat 7210*,);
Restoration of eurosiberian silvostepp vegetation with Quercus sp (habitatul 91IO*)
Improving the attitude of local communities regarding the habitat conservation of the two Natura 2000 sites

Activity A3:
The pedologic mapping of the marsh priority
habitats, resulting in 4 field categories;
The establishment of the dynamics of the
underground waters and the determination of
the hydrological regime, by collecting
hydrological data from 39 drillings, resulting
in the determination of the water surface and
undergroung drainage direction (maps with
hydroisohypse and hydroisobatas);
Simulations on the underground water levels in
order to determine the perfect conditions for
endangered species. 4

Activity C1:
Establishing the limits of the two sites ROSCI0170 şi ROSCI0055 (370 topographic milestones-727 ha of habitat);
Fencing the threatened marsh priority habitat 7120* with a green fence and wood edge Harman marsh -19.540 seedlings and 1.200 linear meters of wood;
Prejmer marsh – 49.120 seedlings and 4.132 linear meters of wood fence;

Activity C4:
In Harman marsh, 2 channels totaling 1,1 km were identified and were naturally clogged;
In Prejmer marsh, 5 channels with a total length of 2,1 km were clogged;
71 springs were identified and 7 of them were sanitized and the surrounding vegetation was eliminated;
Elimination of invasive species on a pilot area of 3,5 ha;
Damming work in order to raise the level of underground water;
Monitoring the evolution of Ligularia sibirica, Adenophora liliifolia, Liparis loeselii and GPS marking their location (2014-over 100 pieces of Ligularia sibirica);
Gathering seeds for ex-situ multiplication of the species mentioned above
Ploughing a string to prevent firing of stubble

silvosteppe with Quercus sp.
Activity C3: Due to abundant fructification in 2012, acorn was collected from 68 oaks (marked) and used for multiplication, obtaining 7.000 seedlings which were transported to the purchased greenhouse in Sanpetru;
In September 2014, the natural regeneration of oak was assisted by supportive actions (elimination of redundant vegetation nearby) – 3,4 ha;
On Lempeș Hill - Hărman Marsh, actions of eliminating the attack of Microsphaera abbreviata pathogenic, by using TILD fungicid of 0,03% concentration;
In the Spring of 2015, seedlings obtained in the greenhouse were planted in the field with the help of the students of the Forestry Faculty of Brasov (Transilvania University)

In 2013 were implemented supporting measures for the seedlings, respectively the soil was mobilized around them
In the autumn of 2013 were planted 1400 alder seedlings on a surface of 5.1 hectares, respectively 430 grams of alder seeds were seeded
In the spring of 2014, were planted 3000 alder seedlings on a surface of 4.8 hectares
In the autumn of 2014, were planted 2400 alder seedlings on a surface of 2.2 hectares
C2. Restoring the natural conditions, conserving and supporting the
ecological procesess in the alluvial forests from Prejmer (91E0*)
Threats regarding conservation of the priority habitats
Intensive grazing;
Stray dogs or sheepfold yoke free dogs;
Disorganized tourism;
Waste disposal in the protected areas;
Vandalism (broken panels, tubes, topographic milestone, firing etc.)

Successful activities which contributed to the conservation of
the priority habitats

Meetings with farmers, animal breeders, mayors, authorities for
environment protection, before grazing period (4 meetings);
Patrols for grazing monitoring (2 teams permanently)
Ecological education campaigns with children and students;
Exchanges of the local communities (Prejmer, Harman, Sanpetru)
with similar areas in the EU (Donau-Auen-Austria; Ferto-Hansag
Park-Hungary);
Setting up picnic areas and thematic tracks for tourists;
Volunteering campaigns with students of Forestry Faculty;
Exchange with other LIFE projects (Anglesey and Llyn fens,
England)
