LAST WEEK - March 1, 2019 – David Hulme: BSA Leader Troop 7, Davenport
Fifty-five attended on Friday, March 1, including Moline Rotary member, Mark Carlson. Also present was Tracy Denahy and 3 North Scott High School students. March birthdays were celebrated with balloons and cake. Jeremy Kaiser and Heather Wagner sold 50/50 tickets. Dr. Don Sierk was the lucky winner of $92. Nathan Kessler was the sergeant and collected $106 in fines. Jeff Ashcraft announced that the remaining trikes for his District project will be built on May 4 at HDC. The format will be the same as the last build, beginning at 8:30 am with the children receiving the trikes at 10:30 am. John Maxwell announced that Cinna-mon Ridge Dairy is #2 in milk production, #1 in protein and 6 of the top 10 Jersey’s live at Cinnamon Ridge.
David Hulme was quite emotional when he spoke of the loss of his fellow scout leader, Dave Hill, who was killed in an auto ac-cident in January 2018. Upon Mr. Hill’s death, the troop realized that he had supported the troop financially for quite awhile and they applied for support from North Scott Rotary. They were awarded enough money to purchase a new trailer to haul their equip-ment and some tents and camping accessories. Troop 7 is headquartered in the First Presbyterian Church in Davenport and has been there for over 100 years. The troop has 8 assistant scout masters and has meetings and activities every week! Youth are drawn to this club because of their frequent and vari-ous activities. In the summer they bike in Wild Cat Den State Park and kayak at Credit Island. They go camping in all seasons. In the winter they enjoy skiing and sledding at Snowstar. A lot of their equipment has been donated, so the scouts only must pay ad-mission fees. Troop 7 has produced over 40 Eagle Scouts, with six more to become Eagle Scouts in 2019. There are so many scouts in the troop, that sometimes they don’t have enough places for them all to sleep.
The 4 Way Test Of the things we THINK SAY or DO
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
