How does arts integration transcend barriers to learning?
How can we create capacity within ourselves to integrate the arts?
Think of a time that you were truly engaged in a learning experience….
Where were you? What were you learning? What made it engaging?

This is a model created in collaboration by San Francisco Symphony’s Keeping Score participating sites. It is intended to demonstrate that yellow (other content) blended fully with blue (music content) yields green (two-way integration).
How do you see pathways to integration?
Natural – not forced – intersections
Beginning with non-arts content
Beginning with arts content
Beginning with a

People learn by actively constructing new
knowledge, rather than having information
"poured" into their heads.
They learn with particular effectiveness when they
are engaged in constructing personally meaningful
artifacts this is known as “hard fun.” –
