Disaster Planning Workshop3
Disaster Planning Workshop4
Lessons Learned from Previous Disasters
Incident Command Lessons Learned Scene managers must stay together Lack of commonality with management systems
Need standardized system to ensure that all responders are aware of how response will be managed
Need better education on IMS/ICS. Awareness training on these is a must
Leaders should act like leaders, not like responders Need to establish a multi-agency command center for
all agencies that are involved
Disaster Planning Workshop5
Lessons Learned (con’t)
Appointment of a scene safety officer is critical Strong incident management is critical Don’t lock into one management approach. Be
creative, stay flexible, if it works, use it Need representatives of all involved agencies at
regularly scheduled briefings to ensure that everyone knows what is going on
EOC/Command Center phone list critical Old type “thick” plans don’t work. Need short
checklist.
