NEWS UPDATE 5 FEBRUARY 2016
Principal’s Message Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Staff
Welcome back to all for the 2016 school year.
Guildford Public School continues to grow in student population. We begin the year with 90 kindergarten students and 22 classes K-6, an increase of two classes from 2015.
Staff and community feedback and evidence of best teaching and learning practice have shaped the 2016-2018 Guildford Public School Plan. Designed around three strategic directions, the aim is to further develop high quality teaching, learning and leadership. Preparing students to be highly creative, collaborative, critical and confident is key to building a new generation of confident thinkers and problem solvers. I take this opportunity to thank all staff for their thoughtful contribution and effective team work in building a practical School Plan.
Guildford Public School Plan 2016-2018
Demonstrating compassion is a wonderful quality that an individual can carry with them in their dealings with people on a daily basis. As we welcome new families who have recently arrived in Australia, I take this opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of all community members in making our school and wider community a friendly, challenging and supportive environment to learn, play and grow.
Staffing 2016 Welcome to newly appointed teachers, Miss Currey and Miss Bradshaw. Miss Bryceland and Miss Ali Khan will share the role of relieving Assistant Principal Stage 3. Miss Corso will relieve as Kinder Assistant Principal on Fridays. Classes and Guildford PS staff for 2016

Canteen Ms Deb Tye Student details and notes: If your child is absent, a signed note outlining the reason is required. Please inform the office of any change of detail – new address, new phone number, emergency contact details. It is essential school has the most recent details in case of an emergency. Every Day Counts – Attendance Students are expected to attend school every day unless they are sick or there are other exceptional circumstances preventing him/her from attending. Research titled “Student Attendance and Educational Outcomes: Every Day Counts” completed by the University of Western Australia in 2013 clearly linked poor attendance with low achievement. The message is clear – Every Day Counts.
“In all analyses, average academic achievement declined with any absence from school and continued to decline as
absence rates increased.” The University of Western Australia, 2013
Photography and Video Permission At certain times throughout the year, our students may have the opportunity to be photographed or filmed for our school publications, such as the school's newsletter or website and social media, or to promote the school in newspapers and other media. The school may also wish to use student photographs/videos in print and online promotional, marketing, media and educational materials. A permission note will be sent home next week and needs to be returned to your child’s teacher. Uniform All students must wear full school uniform to school each day. This includes white socks, black shoes and a maroon hat. Sports shoes are worn on Sport Day only. School hats are available for purchase from the canteen. If your child is out of uniform for any reason, they will need to bring a note to school. Children out of uniform may be excluded from school events or excursions. School Zones and Traffic Safety As school returns for 2016, it is a timely reminder to all parents that School Zones are now back in operations. Could I please ask all parents to be very mindful of the number of students entering the school and St Patrick’s Primary School during the mornings and afternoons. Please drive carefully around both schools. The ‘NO STOPPING’ signs in Apia Street mean exactly that – NO STOPPING to drop children off or pick up. Fines will apply if you are caught by Police or Council Officers. Parents & Citizen’s Association The first P&C meeting is scheduled for Thursday February 18 from 9am, I encourage parents and carers to attend and contribute as a community member. Community Corner (news from Sajida and Asenati) English classes for parents are scheduled each Thursday 9.00am – 11.15am from February 11 to March 31. Those interested can see Sajida or Asenati on Thursdays at school or leave your name with Wendy at the office. During the year, we will require parents to help with covering books, cutting out cards, pencil sharpening etc. Helpers can go to the ‘Parent Café’ (located beside the hall) on Thursdays
