For most workgroup users the interaction
between the MFP and the user starts at the
control panel. One of the deciding factors that
most businesses consider when purchasing an
MFP, is its ease of use. If users cannot get the
output they desire quickly and easily, frustrations
mounts, resulting in decrease job performance,
making the MFP counter productive.
The Control Panel and the Wide Touch Screen
Interface (TSI) for the CS-3040 and the CS-2540
was designed with simplicity and ease of use in
mind. With the TSI for the CS-3040 and the
CS-2540, users can select any of the many
features that these MFPs provide, allowing the
user to produce professional looking copies
easily and quickly. Copystar also designed the
CS-3040 and the CS-2540 around Copystars
Long Life components, making the CS-3040 and
CS 2540 dependable and the ideal choice for
the small business.
Control PanelThe Control Panel for the CS-3040 and the
CS-2540 can be divided into three sections.
These sections are the Function Keys, TSI, and
Numeric Keypad.
Function KeysThe Function Keys to the left of the control panel
allow users to change the image on the TSI for
access. The Function Keys for Copier, Printer
and Fax are on-board depending on
configuration and options available.
Numeric KeypadThe Numeric Keypad area of the control panel
also includes the Start, Stop and Reset Keys.
Access, Interrupt and Energy Saver buttons
are also in this area.
Touch Screen Interface (TSI)The TSI of the control panel is where function
navigation is accomplished. In Copier Mode,
the TSI uses a tab format, similar to
Windows. These tabs, in conjunction with
Copystars unique Shortcut Keys give users
total control over the hard-copy documents the
user is duplicating. The tabs that are visible
when users walk up to the copier are:
Basic User Choice
Function
Program
In addition, at the right of the TSI, up to three
copy features can be registered as shortcuts,
allowing the user quick access to the most
commonly used feature sets of the MFP.
Basic TabThe Basic Tab of the TSI contains the
information for Paper Section with an image
of the devices paper drawers. In addition, the
Basic Tab can be customized to display three
additional requirements.
These choices can include:

User Choice TabThe User Choice tab is intended for workgroups
that use specific features of the MFP when
copying. The User Choice tab is fully
customizable, allowing workgroups to add the
most commonly used features found under the
Function tab to the User Choice tab. Up to seven
additional features of the MFP can be added to
the User Choice tab from the Function tab for
quick access. A list of most of these features is
listed below under the Function Tab heading.

Additional Control Panel FeaturesThe Control Panel will also allow access to some
additional features that will facilitate the use of
the CS-3040 and the CS-2540 in the workplace
for both the end-user and IT. The additional
items include language selection, management
codes and reports.
Language SelectionThe CS-3040 and the CS-2540 can be
configured to display information in English,
Spanish, French and Japanese. Language
setting is accomplished from the Default
screen on the TSI.
Management Codes and ReportsThe CS-3040 and the CS-2540 has a built-in
Management Code system, allowing IT to
assign up 500 Account Codes. These Account
Codes can then be tracked by an administrator
to determine how much an individual or group
is printing or copying and a report can then be
printed that will reflect the usage of the MFP. In
businesses looking for precise cost control
over document output, this can be very
advantageous.
Improved Paper CassettesThe CS-3040 and the CS-2540 incorporate
the new Top/Bottom handle design. The new
handles are designed so users can unlock the
cassettes using either an over or under hand
grip and are Section 508 compliant.

Optional Print and FaxOne of the most important advancements in the
Office Equipment industry has been the combination
of multiple office machines into a single multi-
functional device. At one time, an office may have
required a fax machine, copier, and a printer. Each
of these machines took up space in the office and
each required individual service agreements. With
the development of the MFP, all of these functions
are consolidated into a single product, reducing the
amount of equipment that is necessary to perform
these individual tasks. The MFP also has additional
features and functions that are not available with
most of the single function devices. With the benefits
that the digital MFP provides, customers are able to
realize improved productivity at a much lower cost.
The CS-3040 and CS-2540 offers Optional Network
Printing, and Optional Fax, in addition to traditional
copy functionality. In todays busy office
environments, customers are looking for a
manufacturer who can provide them with standard
and otional feature sets that meet the needs of the
workplace. With the key features, options and
reliability Copystar provides with these products, the
CS-3040 and CS-2540 will address the requirements
that the small to mid-size business is looking for
when leasing or purchasing an MFP for their
workgroup.
Expanded Memory ResourcesThe new CS-3040 and CS-2540 Optional Print
System (Y) comes standard with 64MB of RAM
(Random Access Memory), and is upgradable to
576MB. With the optional HD-ME5 printer HDD the
CS-3040 and the CS-2540 can so support e-MPS.
The CS-3040 and CS-2540 Optional Fax System (P)
comes standard with 4MB of RAM (Random Access
Memory), and is upgradable to 32MB.
Finishing / Output OptionsThe CS-3040 and CS-2540 can be installed in
customer environments where document finishing is
a requirement. The CS-3040 and CS-2540 offer both
an internal finisher for space saving convince as well
as a 1,000 sheet finisher with stapling features.
1,000 Sheet Single Staple Finisher (DF-730)For customers that have basic finishing
requirements, the CS-3040 and CS-2540 can be
configured with the DF-730 1,000 sheet finisher. The
DF-730 can add a single staple to up to 30 sheets
letter or 20 sheets legal and ledger
Internal Finisher (DF-670)If space is an issue and finishing is required, the
CS-3040 and CS-2540 can be configured with the
DF-670 Internal Finisher. The finisher is installed in
the open space below the control panel and can
staple 30 sheets of 8 x 11, and 20 sheets of 8
x 14 and 11 x 17 sizes. Up to 500 sheets (Letter)
can be stacked using the DF-670.

ControllerThe CS-3040 and CS-2540 utilize Copystars
Print System (Y) print controller. The controller
features an embedded PowerPC RISC
processing chip, delivering high performance for
any customers printing environment.
The CPU of the controller has a clock speed of
400MHz (MegaHertz), which is very competitive
for MFPs in this range. Most competitive MFPs
top out at 500MHz, with a few in the 300MHz
range. Faster clock speeds provides faster
processing times of documents, improving the
overall efficiency of the device, and inevitably,
the companys workload.
Document OutputWith output speeds of up to 30 pages per
minute, 600 x 600 dpi and 256 levels of
grayscale, the CS-3040 and the CS-2540 can
support the following environments: Windows,
Mac, Novell, UNIX and Linux. Copystar also
provides excellent print solutions like PDF Direct
Print and PRESCRIBE that will allow businesses
to structure a more cost effective and productive
printing workflow process within their workgroup
environments.
Page Description Languages (PDLs)Page Description Languages or PDLs are the
embedded command sets that a printer
understands for document output. The most
common PDLs in an office environment will be
PCL (Printer Control Language) or PostScript. The new Copystar Workgroup MFPs support
both of these PDLs, as well as other PDLs that
will often be found in environments, such as
back-office or mainframe printing.
Copystars ability to emulate a variety of PDLs
provides our products with a significant
advantage in any environment that requires
integration with operating systems beyond a
typical Windows model. Companies with
Macs, Linux systems or running UNIX will find
that Kyocera is a critical choice to solve their
printing issues.
PCL XL is an extended PCL language based
on PCL 6 and 5e, that supports advanced
printer features, and is device dependent.
Documents printed using PCL language are
usually general office documents created in
popular office programs. Printing documents
with PCL sends the data from the application
with the print commands for page layout and
output is dependent on the device.
PostScript is a PDL most commonly used with
desktop publishing software, though it can be
used for office applications as well. PostScript
is device independent and utilizes a PPD
(PostScript Printer Definition) to output pages.
The PPD sets the page layout without any
device requirements, so documents can be
printed from one device to the next without any
issues. Kyocera provides a PostScript
emulation called KPDL3 with our devices asstandard.
The CS-3040 and CS-2540 support the
following PDLs:
PCL XL (PCL 6 and PCL 5e)
KPDL3 (PostScript 3)
KC-GL (HP/GL2))
Diablo 630

Font SupportBusiness documents printed on monochrome
devices, whether they are MFPs or Printers, will
typically be text-intensive, rather than graphics-
intensive. Because this is the case, the
appearance of the text, or fonts, is imperative for
any output device. The new CS-3040 and
CS-2540 Workgroup MFPs will provide
companies with the following:
80 Outlines for PCL XL/5e
136 Outlines for KPDL3
1 Bitmap Font Outline
Font Support for popular TrueType Outlines willguarantee that documents look exactly how the
person printing has intended. The KX Driver will
allow users to select a variety of choices.
Driver SupportCopystar provides the following Print Drivers:
KX Driver
Windows 64-bit Drivers
Windows Vista Drivers
Certified Uni Drivers
PPDs for Mac
PPDs for Linux/UNIX
Kyoceras KX Driver common user interface,
which is shared across all Copystars
multifunctional devices, will simplify both setup
and use and will allow user to take full advantage
of the CS-3040 or the CS-2540 features and
options.
With the KX Driver, users in small to mid-size
business workgroups will be able to specify
paper handling as well as duplex and stapling
and have these print jobs delivered to one of the
Virtual Mail Box (VMB) for secure output when
the optional HD-5 printer HDD is installed.
Administrators will also appreciate the benefits
of the KX Driver single user interface.
Administrators will be able to install the KX Driver
for the CS-3040 or the CS-2540 across
multiple operating platforms, regardless of
which Windows operating system is being
used or which page description language is
required.
The KX Driver for Windows is unique in theindustry, providing a strong competitive
advantage in your marketing efforts. The
KX Driver has the same look and feel for all
PC users, no matter what version of
Windows is installed, what Copystar device
is used, or what PDL (PCL or KPDL) is
selected. Since the driver looks the same from
one device to the next, incidences of help

our print controller on these new models is the
ability to integrate in both Linux and UNIX
environments. Both the Linux open source and
UNIX architectures utilize a PostScript Printer
Definition to enable printing.
For most environments, the CUPS (CommonUNIX Print System) PPD is recommended:
CUPS provides a portable printing layer forUNIX-based operating systems. It isdeveloped and maintained by Easy SoftwareProducts to promote a standard printingsolution and is the standard printing system inMac OS X and most Linux distributions.(Source: CUPS.org)
Copystars PPD for the CS-3040 and
CS-2540 supports the CUPS print layer, and
integrates seamlessly into these alternative
types of environments.

Long Life TechnologyThe CS-3040 and the CS-2540 like all of the
Copystars products incorporates the long life
consumables, industry leading yields, and
preventive maintenance, making the CS-3040
and the CS-2540 a real benefit for the small to
mid-size business.
DrumThe CS-3040 and the CS-2540 utilize
Copystars Amorphous Silicon (ASi) Drum for
imaging with a yield rate of 300K. By including
the ASi Drum, Copystar can manufacture
products that have higher drum yields when
compared to other manufactures products in the
same segment.
Monocomponent TonerThe CS-3040 and the CS-2540 are
monocomponent products so no developer
needs to be added between Preventive
Maintenance schedules, as is the case with
some of the competitive dual component
models. Monocomponent Technology is
beneficial to the customer, since the image
printed on the page does not degrade over time
with developer depletion during normal imaging.
Customers with the new
CS-3040 and the CS-2540
only need to replace toner
when required, simplifying
the interaction with these
MFPs. Toner replacement is
a straightforward process,
with the sealed toner container accessed from
the front. The toner container slides easily into
the space just above the engine quickly and
without any mess.
The rated yield for the toner used by the
CS-3040 and the CS-2540 is 20,000
impressions based on a 6% fill ratio.
The TK-679 Toner Container will have an
embedded Radio Frequency Identification
(RFID) chip to ensure that customers use the
proper toner for these products.
Preventive MaintenancePreventive Maintenance or PM is the interval
determined for the Maintenance Kit
replacements, and is set to identify when these
replacement are necessary to ensure the MFP
is working up to manufacturer specifications.
The PM for the CS-3040 and the CS-2540 is
set at 300K impressions.
During the PM for the CS-3040 and the
CS-2540, the only item that is replaced is the
maintenance kit, which consists of the drum
assembly, developer assembly, fixing unit,
transfer assembly and miscellaneous feed
rollers. By providing all of the required parts in
one kit, Service Technicians can perform a PM
very quickly, with the whole process taking
between 20 to 30 minutes. Customers
requiring a PM at the appropriate intervals will
be up and running quickly, minimizing
downtime.
