If memory is our gaze on the past and past, a boat sailing away to another country then, Katia’s unex-pected journey to Istanbul traps her in a chain of adventures enacted on the front of her disrupted childhood days. Can she welcome back the crossed out motherland veiled in silence, come to terms with it and regain trust when violently deported in 1965, a child refugee with only a suitcase in mother’s hand?Ironically, during shooting in Assos, 8 miles across Lesbos Island, we rescued an ID in Arabic floating on the Aegean before our very eyes. Past is never dead, not even past. Istanbul Story is not only a story about Istanbul.

Greece nowadays. Seven different stories about seven persons who have already reached their lim-its and finally fall apart. Despite their seemingly obvious connection they are simultaneously con-nected through a common desperate action: the last phone call to the psychological support center called “life line”. It’s their last hope. As no one can really help them, even then, they all remain another part of the contemporary Greek tragedy.

Finally, the sub-programme helps increase the impact of audiovisual projects by supporting marketing, distribution, branding, exhibitions and film literacy initiatives. Aiming to achieve the stated objectives the Greek MEDIA Desk, which according to the 3905/2010 Law operates under the auspices of Greek Film Centre, has a con-tinues presence as an active partner and cornerstone between the Greek market and the European program. Greek professionals and companies are eligible for financing and encouraged to participate to the different fund-ing schemes to the greatest possible degree. Indicatory for the year 2015, through Creative Europe’s MEDIA sub-programme, €1.872.740 million was in-vested at the Greek audiovisual sector. Specifically:

JESUS By Fernando Guzzoni
Santiago. Jesus is in search of his identity. He dances with a Korean pop group and likes hanging out in public parks with his friends. He doesn’t go to school or have a job. Since his mother died he lives with his father, Hector, in an apartment where the tv covers up their inability to communicate. One night, Jesús opens up to his father and confesses his involvement in an irreversible event. This shared knowledge forces them to join together for the first time. Hector tries to protect and help his son, but keeping the secret begins to eat away at him. One day he decides to go to pick Jesús up, but not pre-cisely to take him back home…

35-year-old Anna lives alone in her big family house. She is addicted to Cosmic Candy, her favourite sweet since childhood. She loves her job at the supermarket, her Fit ’n’ Wit exercise equipment, and anything that helps her avoid panic attacks. Persa, the 10-year-old neighbour, is bound to shatter her solitude, when she appears at Anna’s door-step asking for help because her father has mysteriously disappeared. Trying to solve the mystery of the missing dad, Anna and Persa will go through several trials and trib-ulations. They will find themselves in the most improba-ble situations; from a school full of children playing the heroes of the 19th century Greek Revolution to the most dense forests, where one can come across a life-sized candy that speaks human! The unexpected return of Persa’s father brings their escapade to an abrupt end that finds Anna a totally different person.

Caged in a large and decaying labyrinthine pent-house, cut off from an also decaying and threaten-ing surrounding world that they spy upon through the windows’ grilles and slots, the two protago-nists of the narrative, a beautiful restless woman and a sick bed-ridden man, share their common but in no way idyllic life. The nature of their rela-tionship is undefined and ambiguous, as together they fall into a world between fantasy & reality, where fear, anger, illusion, disgust, and wonder, interchange constantly in a frantic psychological twist. They are “The Beauty and the Beast”, but with the absence of Love.

A cinematic essay that combines documentary, fiction and philosophical contemplation on the subject of the paradoxical interplay between the cultures of the European North and South, with the camera performing continual back-and-forth movements between Germany and Greece. Ethnog-raphy and historiography, culture and everyday life, political and personal experience all come together forming new references, in the course of what constitutes a journey through the labyrinth of recent European history.

To some inhabitants, provincial cities, like Argos, are suffocating. Cultural associations, such as Cul-tural Argolic Protasis, are a sheet anchor for these restless amateurs of all ages. In their pursuit of existential survival, they create an open collectivi-ty, discover new things, read poetry, sing, analyze theatrical plays and work on plays of writers such as Dario Fo, Gogol, Cocteau, Lope de Vega, Brecht, Mike Kenny, Papadiamantis, Ritsos... a reflection on the selfless word of amateur creation in Greek province today.
