challenge membership at
large to “volunteer” to support
your IMCEA leadership
team . . . as our leadership
moves through our IMCEA
chairs, we have openings for
all branches of the service
and key leadership positions
at Headquarters IMCEA. We
too are reminding folks of the
IMCEA benefits for its
members, scholarships and
our annual awards programs.
Lastly, we have several
strong and vibrant IMCEA
local chapters continuing to
do great things worldwide.
IMCEA is about you its
members. Keep in touch and
see you around the worldwide
campus!
W ow, if you are like me,
you’re asking . . .
where did the year go?! It
seems like it was just the
freshness of spring and
your IMCEA leadership
team was heads-down
planning for our support
and tradeshow during the
Armed Forces Food and
Beverage Training
Seminar. What a
wonderful year behind us
as we focus on finishing
our calendars for 2016.
IMCEA has a foundation of
membership support;
networking, exchanging ideas
and connecting our industry
and supporting
manufacturers with our
membership. This year the
“drought” of not being able to
meet as membership at large
and focus on issues during
event gatherings was finally
over. Two highly successful
events reunited us with our
membership. Catersource
and the 2016 Armed Forces
Food and Beverage Training
Seminar and IMCEA
sponsored events put IMCEA
members back in contact with
our support team, our
manufactures, suppliers and
the network team of
dedicated industry
professionals. The entire
IMCEA leadership team has
heard nothing but praises on
the heels of both events and
we are passionate about
trying to ensure these
become an annual calendar
placeholder.
As we close out Fiscal Year
2016, I’d like to personally
thank ALL of our membership
at large . . . thanks for
believing in us, thanks for the
can do attitude, thanks for
telling us how to trust in what
we believe and continue to
carry the ball forward for each
and every one of you!
On a special note, I look
forward to recruiting and
Fiscal Year 2016 Complete!

A nnually the Marine Corps presents Food and Hospitality Awards to those facilities that meet all the
operating criteria and comply with the strict Marine Corps Operating standards. All Clubs, Lodges (Inns of the Corps), Restau-rants and Snack Bars across the Marine Corps are eligible to apply for the Awards. On 15 September at the Officers’ Club, Marine Corps Base Hawaii celebrated and recognized their winners of this most prestigious award for fiscal 2015. Commanding Officer, Col Killeen and Base Sargent Major Gregory Hall presided over the presentation of the awards to the deserving staff. For 2015, a total 72 nominations were submitted to Headquarters Marine Corps of which 58 facilities were awarded for their Excellence. Marine Corps Base Hawaii was proud to be the recipient of thirteen facility Awards. This was the day to be recognized and to enjoy being part of a successful team working to serve the Marines and sailors onboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii. To qualify for a Marine Corps Food and Hospitality Award, individual facilities must excel in the following four categories: 1. Excellence in Customer Service, facility must have a proven track record of providing world class customer service. Employee training, action plans and programs need to be dedicated to taking care of our military guests. Letters, guest comments, surveys and staff training are all integral to meeting this criteria.
2. Financial Performance: the facility must, at the minimum, financially break-even or meet the Marine Corps Standard of profitability. In addition, all benchmark
financial indica-tors must be met such as labor cost, cost of goods sold and other expense percent-ages. A
narrative financial plan is also required. 3. Human Resources: facility must show a true investment in its employees. Training, both mandatory and technical, must have been completed as well as management needs to show methods used for employee retention and increased job satisfaction. 4. Operations, facility must show creative, new and exciting ways of completing its day to day mission to take care of our Marine and Sailors and their families. Programs and initiatives to develop new menus, promotions, special events and enhance guest participation is the key. Of course primary to any food service establishment, all NAV MED sanitation and US Army Vet inspections are required to be "Green". At the awards ceremony, the Commanding Officer presented the awards and posed for pictures with each facility representative and commented on his personal experiences with each facility. He took the time to reiterate his appreciation to each manager and thank every awardee for their contribution to serving the Marines and sailors onboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii. MCBH

Unfortunately, Mr. Chaney was on TAD on the date of the ceremony.
T eens associated with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA)-affiliated youth
program at Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen in Puerto Rico, wanted to do something to recognize the tragedy of the events of September 11, 2001. In an attempt to do something memorable, Milton Ortiz, Youth Director at the youth center at this Coast Guard command, left it to the capable teens to brainstorm with the center members and decide that providing a meal to the active duty members of this busy Caribbean air station
would be the thing to do and much appreciated. Members of the Keystone Club, a club
consistently of older teens at the youth center, took advantage of a half day off from school, doffed their school uniforms, and served nearly 70 meals to service members in the area. Prior to opening the service line for the meal, a moment of silence was observed to reflect on the events that happened 15 years ago and
to honor those during their recognition of the National Day of Remembrance.
