Moving to Common Core StandardsThis booklet has been designed as a resource for parents,
out-of-school education providers, and volunteers. While not comprehensive, it is intended to give a broad overview of what’s
expected of students by the end of each grade level.
This year, all Illinois schools will be using Common Core Standards. Common Core has been adopted by 45 states
so far and gives parents and teachers a clear understanding of what skills children need in each grade level. These standards also help develop critical thinking skills that
help children prepare for college and careers.
Included in this booklet are the skills that students and teachers will be working on together during each grade level.
