This week in RCIA we will learn about the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Sacrament of Confirmation strengthens us in our faith. God gives us the power to learn and share our faith. Saint Augustine said, "in baptism we are mixed with the baptismal waters and we take on the firm of bread, the body of Christ. But the bread needs to be baked in the fire of the Holy Spirit." In baptism, we become members of Christ's body, the Church. In
confirmation, we are strengthened and empowered in our faith. We are given the power to share our faith, to give of ourselves for others, and to be faithful witnesses of Christ.
Our Saint of the Day will be Saint Luke, who was a physician. God worked through Saint Luke to give us the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles, which are two books from the New Testament. Saint Luke is the Patron Saint of physicians and surgeons. RCIA meets in the ballroom on Tuesdays from 6:45-8:45 p.m. "RCIA" stands for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. It's the process by which adults come into full communion with the Catholic Church by receiving their Sacraments of Initiation. It's free, childcare is provided, we have a lot of fun and we always have something good to eat. If you have questions, feel free to email me at [email protected].

BIBLE STUDY—It is NOT too late to join us in either the Wednesday 9:00-10:30 a.m. "JESUS
REVEALED" Bible Study Class or the Thursday evening 6:30-8:00 Class. Live Streaming is available to all participants which means you will have access and can view ALL the video lessons by signing in on-line to the St. Stephen's Group for any classes you are unable to attend. You won't want to miss the in-class discussions and conversations over the video/study material either, so plan to join us and ponder Jesus' question to His Apostles: "Who do you say that I am?" (Lk9:20) We meet in Room 2; Study Guides are $35 and available in the Church Office or at Class. Call Jo Ann at 559-2658 or Beverly at 686-8425 for more information.
Dress an Angel
Each year Helping Hands and the St. Stephen’s Women’s Organization coordinate the “Dress an Angel” project. The families that are chosen to be recipients of
this project have been helped by Helping Hands of Midland in the past and are in need but are not
receiving any assistance from any other agency or organization for the holidays. These families will receive a gift certificate to buy food for
Thanksgiving and Christmas, a bag of presents for each child as well as toys. Beginning Saturday November 4th 2017, the children of these
families become our Angels and are available to be chosen by you, the parishioners. After mass, some members of the Women’s
Organization will be in the foyer near the “Angels” banner to assist you in signing up to buy Christmas presents, clothing and a fun toy for the Angel or Angels of your choice. Directions will be handed out with the Angel card as well as a bag in which you should place your Christmas
wrapped presents. Our phone number is on the Angel card in case you have any questions or a problem. We do accept donations of money if
you prefer not to shop. Thank you so much for your support! These children in need will receive Christmas
presents because of YOU!
God bless, Carmen Rodelo and Leticia Gutierrez

Hermana Gertrudis Muñoz Mendieta I.C.A.S.

Carlos and Antonia, who lost their first child, a son, in the second trimester of her pregnancy, were eagerly awaiting the birth of their second child, a daughter. Christina arrived two months early. Her lungs were underdeveloped. Antonia spent two months in the hospital recovering from her difficult delivery. Christina also remained in the hospital, in an incubator to help her breathe. It was determined that Christina needed to be in a hospital in Dallas, and so the couple packed up to be with their daughter. She remained in the hospital for 3 additional months, but in the end she, like her brother, went to heaven. Carlos and Antonia had pleaded with the manager of the apartment complex in which they lived to hold their apartment until they could return to Midland, but when they returned to Midland they found they had no place to live. The complex had evicted the couple and confiscated their possessions. They used what little money they could scrape up to bury their daughter next to their son. They found a small motel room, and both of them returned to their jobs, which had been held for them during their tragic ordeal. The cost of the motel room ate up their income and they found themselves unable to save up enough money to get another place to live. We met with Antonia. She proudly showed us pictures of her little girl. The first two pictures showed her in the incubator, with tubes attached to her body. The third picture showed the precious baby after death, lying peacefully in her little white dress and finally free of the tubes. The young mother gently caressed the picture and with tears in her eyes, smiled as she looked at her little angel. We were privileged to help this couple get a new place to live. There they can grieve the loss of their children. Please pray that they find healing and are one day able to have that family they yearn for so desperately. Thank you for your support, that allowed us to help them!
