CATALAN POLICY ON PRODUCTION OF MATERIALS FOR THE TEACHING OF CATALAN LANGUAGE
• Late 70’s and the 80’s: Recovery of national rights and institutions
• Laws were passed to ensure the right to education in Catalan: law for linguistic normalization.
• The method of linguistic immersion in Catalan was adopted to reinforce the use of the language by young generations
• As schools required textbooks in Catalan, publishers began creating materials to cover the needs of the market.
• Almost all curricular areas and studies are covered by the materials created by publishers
• No policy of dinamization is taken• The government only watches for the quality and
adequacy of materials produced• The government acts as a spearhead to foster
the development of materials in new areas, such as newcomers (see “Vincles”).
