uality and Equity”. Each day will focus on quality, equity and leadership.

As the global representative organization for midw
ives, ICM

ife-led services for wom
en, because we

idwives are the key to im
proving health outcomes for w
omen and
their newborns during childbirth.

she is the mother of Jordan’s current m
onarch, King Abdullah II.
Her Royal Highness is passionate about the development of
midw
ifery in the Middle East; she founded the Princess M
una Scholarship Fund for Nursing. Furtherm
ore, she founded the Princess M
una College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions. The Princess is
currently President of the Jordanian Nursing Council; it w
as created by her son by a Royal D
ecree in 2002. In 2007, she was aw
arded the Sigm
a Theta Tau International Archon Award due to her w
ork in helping the advancem
ent of health and welfare in the w
orld. She is also the Vice-President of the Royal C
ollege of Nursing.

Sue Bree has served as a midw
ife in New Zealand’s Northland
comm
unity for some 30 years, providing hom
e and hospital birthing services. She w
as one of the first self-employed m
idwives,
with clients draw
n from largely rural, unem
ployed or socially disadvantaged sectors of the com
munity.
She was a m
idwife m
ember of the NZ Nursing C
ouncil, served three term
s as President of the NZ College of M
idwives and w
as an inaugural m
ember of the M
idwifery C
ouncil of NZ. Sue served as president of the NZ C
ollege of Midw
ives and was appointed as
a mem
ber of the Midw
ifery Council of NZ. She is a past IC
M board
mem
ber and is currently co-chair of the ICM
Regulation Standing C
omm
ittee. In 2008 she was m
ade a NZ College of M
idwives Elder.
Franka Cadée is an expert on M
idwifery and advisor on international
maternal health, w
ith over 30 years of strategy and policy developm
ent, advocacy, leadership, project managem
ent and partnership. She is the current the International C
onfederation of M
idwives (IC
M) President.
With her anthropological and m
idwifery background, Franka has
lived and worked across a range of differently resourced countries
and is well aw
are of the realities of midw
ifery practice in various cultural contexts. She is a strong proponent of hum
anised midw
ifery care and encourages m
idwives to practice respectful care w
ith a hum
an rights-based approach.
