Proud to bea Viking!
From Coach Chris Fenner:
The Lady Vikings hosted Hartford Indians on Tuesday night following a long holiday break. The return to action didn't go quite as planned for the ladies, dropping the home contest 33-17. The first half was a defensive battle only totaling 19 points between both teams. The 2nd half started out a little rough with some untimely mental mistakes allowing the Indians to jump out to a 10 point lead and never look back. The Vikes were lead by Maritza Barajas with 7 points and 12 rebounds. Amara Littlefield chipped in with 5 points and 8 rebounds, Emily Hernandez also contributed 4 points and 4 steals. Next game the ladies travel to Decatur on Thursday night.

CardinalSports Teams!
The Bloomingdale wrestlers welcomed the new year at the Third Annual Bloomingdale Wrestling Invitational, held on January, 4th. This event has become a highlight of the wrestling season for many west Michigan mat squads. The twelve team event was won by Holland High School and the Cardinals placed 6th as a team. The Cardinal wrestlers continue to improve as the season progresses. Carlos Garcia, who leads the team with 14 victories, placed 2nd at the Bloomingdale Invitational. Other Car-dinal grapplers earning medals were: Chris Streeter, 4th at 135 pounds, Andy Sustatia, 4th at 160 pounds, Alex Sustatia 6th at 160 pounds, Devin Gibson, 5th at 171 pounds and Garrett Grover, 5th at 189 pounds. “I’m pleased with the direction that we are
moving. We get a little better every week and that is all we can ask for.” Stated head wrestling coach, Dennis Paquette. “I’m start-ing to figure things out in the competitions. I’m moving better in the bottom position. Devin (Gibson) and I are really good training partners.” Said senior, Garrett Grover. The wrestling team improved its dual meet record to 9-2 by picking up two victories over SouthWest-10 Conference foes Eau Claire and Hartford. Cardinals earning key victories were Andy Sustatia, Chris Streeter, Garrett Grover and Stephos Georgiou. Senior-Captain, Carlos Garcia said “We try to be very active in the neutral position. If we are aggressive, we can rack up a lot of points. Coach Paquette really stresses this to us in practice.”
The Lady Cardinals traveled to Mendon on December 19th to face off with the Lady Hornets. Bloomingdale jumped out to a commanding lead and never looked back, picking up the win 51-16. The Cardinals used their full-court press and were able to convert forced turnovers into easy buckets. Kallie Harrison scorched the nets for 30 points and picked up 7 steals. Aimee Sustaita played tight defense and was able to pick up 4 steals and added 7 points. Katrise Hudson grabbed 12 rebounds and scored 7 points. Allison Starbuck chipped in 5 points and Emma Allison 2 points, while Olaisa Moss picked up 4 steals. With this win, the Lady Cardinals moved to 4-0 in league play and 4-2 overall. Coming back from winter break, Bloomingdale faced the undefeated Centreville Bulldogs (6-0). It was a much anticipated match up
as both teams came into the contest undefeated in the SW10 Conference. The Lady Cardinals knew they needed to be efficient in transi-tion and execute in the half-court. Throughout the first half, they strug-gled to score. Defensively, Blooming-dale was able to use their full-court press to force several turnovers but still ended the 1st half down 13-20. The Lady Cardinal’s offensive woes continued into the 2nd half, struggling to penetrate Centerville’s defense. The ladies never gave up but in the end took the loss 33-44. Katrise Hudson tallied a double, double with 10 points and 10 re-bounds. Kallie Harrison 10 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Allison Star-buck 6 points and 3 rebounds. Emma Allison 5 points and 3 rebounds. Olaisa Moss 4 points and 2 steals. Bloomingdale moves to 4-1 in league play and 4-3 overall.
The Bloomingdale Cardi-nals came home with a big 76-69 win after traveling to Centreville Monday, Jan. 6 to take on the Bulldogs. Both teams got out to a hot start and played neck and neck the whole night. Tyler Starbuck led all scores with 37 points fol-lowed by Senior forward Bobby Boyer (26), Mav Manning (6), Carson Fisher (4), Pierce Manning (2), and Haitham Soubh (1).
The JV Lady Cardinal basketball team has battled some tough games this season. Before going on winter break, they earned two more wins. On December 13th they played away against the Bangor Vikings and ended with a score of 45-9. Highlights for the game included a per-sonal high score for Aquinnah Kelly with 24 points, Katherine Peevy with 6, Shelby Hassing with 6, and Ezmerelda Marquez scored her first points of the season. On December 17th the girls played away at Hartford, earning another tough win
with a final score of 47-41. Lead scorers for the game were Aquinnah Kelly with 17, Katherine Peevy with 12, and Olivia Kelly with 10. They took a hard loss on January 7th against Centerville, after returning from winter break. Despite the loss, it has been exciting to watch the progress this young team has made.Come out and support them this week January 14th when we play host to the Cassopolis Rangers. Go Cards!
The Middle School Competitive Cheerleaders have been working hard over break. On Saturday, December 21st they competed at Gobles Cheer Bash. Their hard work paid off earning them sec-ond place and a plaque to be displayed in the showcase!! The next meet was Saturday, January 4th at Northpointe Christian High School. The girls worked hard and came in first in their division!! Come out and support your Middle School Competitive Cheerleaders as finish their season traveling to Gull Lake High School on Saturday January 11th starting at 9am or catch them on Tuesday, Jan. 14th at 6pm at Lawton High School. We let them bring the game to us and had to chase all night long. Any time we looked like we could make a run, they responded and I have to them credit. We lost focus over the long layoff and will look to gain traction again and show better in upcoming match ups.
