No. 5 Date: 07/09/2016 Week 8 Term 3
Book Week Parade 2016 – Australia, Story, Country, Sport Last Friday, on a wet rainy day, we held our school Book Week parade. Despite the rain it was a
wonderful day enjoyed by all. Staff and students alike were dressed in all kinds of Australian sporty
themed and coloured costumes – some very clever ideas. A big THANK YOU to all the parents who
contributed to the day by joining us for the celebrations and for your fantastic efforts with the
children’s costumes. It was also heartening to see the few eager families who stayed for the picnic
afterwards under the COLA. A very entertaining and fun day!
Grandparents’ Day 2016 – Wednesday 14 September Next Wednesday, 14 September, we will be holding our annual Grandparents’ Day in
honour of all grandparents and grandparent figures. As in past years the day will
begin with a concert in the hall, performed by students from the school Choir and Band, for grandparents and parents. Following this there will be Open Classrooms for
visitors and finishing with a picnic in the grounds. Schedule as follows:
12.00pm: Concert in the school hall
12.40: Open Classrooms
1.20pm – 2.05pm: Picnic in the grounds (BYO lunch and chairs/rugs etc)
Free tea and coffee will be available.
There will also be cakes for sale from 0.50¢- $5.00. This is a Year 6 social justice fund-raising initiative.
All proceeds from the cake sales will go to Kenya Aid.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Book Club Orders for Issue 6 Scholastic Book Club are due back no later than Monday 12 September. Parents can order
online using the LOOP – a fast and convenient way to make your purchases. Please check that order forms are
filled out correctly including both the child’s name and class. Credit card payments must be made online first
and the receipt number needs to be recorded on the order form.
Afternoon Dismissal and Student Safety We ask that all parents familiarise themselves with the following procedures as they are intended to ensure
the safety of students in a high volume traffic area.
All students Kindergarten to Year 6 are directly supervised by teachers to the 3 main dispersal areas each
afternoon. These 3 dispersal areas are:
1. Student Bus Lines Students sit in bus lines under the school shelter. Each bus number is announced via PA and children are supervised onto
each bus by 1 of 3 bus duty teachers.
2. Students Walking or Riding Bicycles These students are dismissed by their class teacher and proceed via the designated path behind STARS/Writers
Club/Music room and follow this route adjacent to the church onto Hawkesbury Road footpath. For safety reasons
students are not to use any other route to get to Hawkesbury Rd e.g down Columba’s Drive.
3. Students Collected by Parents or Guardians These students are accompanied by teachers to the parent gathering area and need to be collected by
parents/guardians personally.
NO STUDENTS SHOULD BE WALKING UNACCOMPANIED TO THE CHURCH CAR PARK OR ANY OTHER AREA ON THE PARISH SITE.
The practice of having children wait for parents on kerbs adjacent to the car park is potentially dangerous. We request
that parents refrain from the practice of picking up their children in this fashion. The “Kiss and Drop” bay (marked no
parking) in the church car park is for morning drop off use only.
THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE – THERE IS A HIGH VOLUME OF PEDESTRIAN AND VEHICLE TRAFFIC IN THE AFTERNOON.
All children should be collected in person and accompanied and supervised closely by parents/guardians to motor
vehicles. Whilst this may be slightly inconvenient, it is far better than jeopardising the safety and well-being of people.
Thank you for your understanding of these important safety measures.
