Welcome to week 3 everyone!
How about those frosts last week! I hope the wood heap has been fully stocked because it looks like there not much change in sight!
To begin this newsletter I would like to formally welcome Mrs Luke who will be replacing Mrs Ryan on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Mrs Luke brings a wealth of experience to our school after having spent time in administration and in the classroom as a teachers aide and will now be the School Administrative Manager (SAM) at Bongongo Public School. I look forward to working alongside Mrs Luke as we move forward.
I am looking forward to tomorrow as we celebrate education week with our grandmothers. We will get up to all sorts of fun and games as we showcase our school to our families and enjoy a scrumptious recess and lunch together as we hear stories from our grandparents and where they went to school. I think there may be a couple that still remember the dreaded cane!
Last week our year 2-5 students completed their maths mentals and speed assessment which we complete each term. All students achieved pleasing results including our year 2 students who were completing the test for the first time. I would like to make special mention of Jetty Mason who has made marvellous inroads towards her mathematics over the past 12 months and as a result of her improved work ethic she has improved her results by a remarkable 20% since term 4 last year! This is wonderful to see! Well done Jetty!
That’s about all this week. Enjoy the week everyone!

A message from Miss Reynolds
This Semester students are learning about a range of well-known artists. Our first focus last week was Van Gogh. We are investigating Monet this fortnight. We would like to thank Simone Onus who is continuing her art with the students and had students creating their own ‘Starry nights’ and ‘Sunflowers’, by Vincent Van Gough.
This week, students in Kindergarten are focusing on the ‘oi’ sound. The Year 1 students will be focusing on information texts with focus on the Australian animals.
In Numeracy, the Year 1 students will be commencing their 2x tables after mastering 1x.
The students discussed their ‘Safe choices’ as part of the Healthy Active Lifestyles with small group activities presented to their peers promoting different ways to deal with situations.
We are all very excited about celebrating our visiting Grandparents in our classes tomorrow with lots of fun exciting activities planned to keep our guests busy.

Numeracy in the spotlight
Did you know ?
“Eleven plus two” is an anagram of “twelve plus one” which is pretty fitting as the answer to both equations is 13.
Literacy Corner
Did you know ?
The word "rhythm" is the longest word without a vowel.

Small Schools touch knock out
Next Wednesday 14th August 2019, our year 2-
5 students will be combining with Wee-Jasper
Public School for the annual small schools
touch football competition. We will be playing
at Walker Park, Yass which will be a blast from
the past for Mr Gorman who spent all of his
junior football playing on that oval. Hopefully
he left some good luck on the field for us! We
will be playing against Rye Park/Dalton PS in
the first round followed by a second game
against either Nimmitabel or Nangus,
depending on results. The winner of the day
will go through to the State championship in
Sydney. Travel is by Private vehicle and we will
need to arrive by 10:30am.
Grandparents Day
Grandparents Day will be held tomorrow.
The morning will start with a Morning Tea at
11:15am followed by Classroom activities till
1 pm.
We will then treat the Grandparents to a
scrumptious BBQ Lunch. Grandparents only
need to bring themselves. All catering will be
provided.
All Grandparents Welcome

POEM by Year 2
I met a monster,
And he is scary,
He has floppy ears,
And his name is Mary
