Jaguar F-type
Structure :The body of the F-type is nearly fully aluminium which reduces vehicle mass and results in rigidity gains of 30% in many areas, allowing a more dynamic performance. Joining of the structural body panels is by bonding for improved NVH performance and by riveting, in keeping with Jaguar Land Rover lightweight vehicle strategy. The body in white is reported to have a mass of just 260kg and is produced in by a cold process that emits as much as 80% less CO2.
The main exterior panels consist of AC600 aluminium (a 6000 series) as this material has good strength properties but can be accurately shaped for sharp and accurate exterior forming. The door frame structure is shaped by a “warm-forming” process in which the material is heated to 500◦ Fahrenheit before being pressed into shape. This complication makes sense if you consider it has enabled the door frame to be produced as a single lighter weight component.
The boot lid is made of composite materials which enable the unsightly GPS and radio aerials to be integrated and hidden. The bonnet is a large single-piece pressed aluminium component.
The double-wishbone suspension and the ultra-stiff front subframe are of forged alloy.
Technology :Active exhaust systems (standard on S and V8 S models, option on F-type) allow exhaust gasses a more direct exit to alter and enhance the exhaust sound.
The Active rear spoiler deploys at speeds above 60mph to reduce lift by as much as 120kg, and will initiate auto-retraction as the vehicle speed drops to 40mph.
Dynamic launch system (V6 S) maximises torque from 0 to 60mph, through a mechanical Limited Slip Differential.

The V8 S has an Electronic Active Differential that employs an electric motor on a multi-plate clutch to individually manage torque delivery to each of the rear wheels. This is integrated into the Dynamic Stability Control and Traction Control systems.
Each of the 3 models has a different brake system with the entry level F-type having 354mm front/325mm rear discs (silver callipers), the F-type S having 380mm/325mm, and the V8 S having 380mm/376mm (both the latter have red or optional black callipers) . The two higher specification brake systems can be specified as options on the F-type S and V8 S, but these need to be in conjunction with the larger alloy wheels to accommodate the discs and callipers.
The S and V8 S also feature Adaptive Damping as standard. This system monitors body movement, pitch rates, driver steering and throttle inputs and adjusts each suspension damper individually for stability and dynamic performance agility. This works in conjunction with Spontaneous Vehicle Deceleration to keep the vehicle level during heavy braking.
The fabric roof has an integrated heated glass rear window. The roof can deploy in 12 seconds, at speeds of up to 30mph.
Safety Technology :The F-type models feature Jaguar’s Pedestrian Contact Sensing System that utilises an active deployable bonnet.
All models include driver and passenger front SRS airbags, seat airbags with head protection, seat belt pre-tensioners and roll-over protection bars.
All models have Emergency Brake Assist and Electronic BrakeForce Distribution as standard.
All models have Xenon headlamps as standard. Adaptive Front Lighting is an option; this system assesses vehicle speed and steering angle to guide swivelling the headlamps in or outward for cornering visibility.
Intelligent High Beam uses an interior mirror-mounted sensor to automatically switch between low and high beams.
Blind Spot Monitoring is also available.

Trim levels : F-type, F-type S, and F-type V8 S
All models have LED tail lamps, rear parking sensors and an 8” touch-screen control display
F-type: Features 18” ‘Vela’ alloy wheels, sports seats with leather and suede fabric (3 colour choices) and the Performance Braking system with Silver callipers.
F-type S: Standard features are 19” ‘Propeller’ alloy wheels as standard, sports seats with leather fabric and High Performance Braking system with the Red callipers.
F-type V8 S: Standard are 20” ‘Turbine’ alloy wheels, quad exhaust pipes and ambient interior lighting with colour selection.
Amongst the options are other 18” and another 19” wheel designs (one of each), and 5 optional 20” wheel designs. There is a 20” wheel design available with carbon fibre inserts.
There is a “performance” seat available that offers more lateral support, with 4-way adjustment, or 14-way and memory functions.Mirror covers, bonnet louvres, and engine covers are available in carbon fibre.
The ‘Design Pack’ includes front bumper valance/splitter, lower side sill extensions, a lower bumper venture panel (all in body colour), and a Gloss Black rear bumper valance panel.
There is an ‘Exterior Black pack” that includes gloss black front grille and mesh panels, bonnet vents, wing vents, rear bumper valance, and roll-over bar covers.

ACTIONS... Thatcham will commence a research project on this vehicle.
Engine line up :3.0 V6 2995cc 335bhp, 450Nm of peak torque
3.0 V6 2995cc 375bhp, 460Nm of peak torque
5.0 V8 5000cc 488bhp, 625Nm of peak torque
All are alloy block with variable valve timing, and incorporate a twin vortex super-charger mounted within the ‘V’ of the engine to ensure a compact power-plant assembly. All feature an Intelligent Stop/Start system.
An 8-speed close ratio Quickshift transmission is standard on all. This transmission uses sophisticated software to modify the gear selection and shifting speed for different conditions and situations:• Corner Recognition will hold a car in a particular gear ratio when it senses the vehicle is cornering.
• Fast Throttle-Off will detect frequent and rapid throttle applications when a driver is performing multiple manoeuvres and will again hold the car in a particular gear in preparation for the next manoeuvre.
• Speed Management will autonomously give bursts of throttle during downshifts for engine and transmission speed optimisation.
The F-type S has Dynamic Launch Mode that will apply peak torque from 0 to 60mph acceleration.
