Bibliography Lesson
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to
Understand the proper format and necessity of a bibliography. Refresh their understanding of the persuasive angles of Ethos,
Logos, and Pathos
Long Term Objective To foster researching skills, appropriate citations, and persuasive
skills to help students achieve in their persuasive speeches.
Standards 4.B.4a Deliver planned informative and persuasive oral
presentations using visual aids and contemporary technology asindividuals and members of a group; demonstrate organization,
clarity, vocabulary, credible and accurate supporting evidence.
5.B.5b Credit primary and secondary sources in a form appropriatefor presentation or publication for a particular audience.
Materials/Resources
Projector and computer Improperly formatted bibliography Bibliography website handout
Procedure
Intro to Bibliography (5 minutes) As students walk in, have them correct the issues on the
bibliography on the projector. Preface discussion with the following sentence: We have two major
things were going to do today. By the end of the period, I shouldhave your completed bibliography AND one specific slide from yourPowerPoint. We are going to discuss the bibliography first, and then
move to the slide. Discuss proper formatting for a bibliography, correct the mistakes
on the projector as a class
Intro to Pathos slide Refresh students memories on Ethos, Logos, and Pathos with old
slides. Tell them that By the end of the period, I want you to e-mail me one slide that would work as a Pathos attention getter.

So remember, take the first 30-ish minutes to do yourbibliography, but leave yourself 10 minutes at the end to do yourPathos slide, we will be using them tomorrow.
Grab a handout as we leave, were in 302 so quiet in the hallsLab time (rest of class)
Answer questions, facilitate a positive work environment Signpost the amount of time left before they have to switch to their
Pathos slides If you arent completely done with your bibliography, print what
you have so I can give you points for what you have, and the rest is
homework.
Assessments/Checks for Understanding Students may ask me questions during the lesson by raising their
hands and we can quietly conference at their computers.
Printed copy of bibliography from every student Pathos slide from every student for tomorrows activity
Closure/Review
This lesson is largely review, as bibliographies are required for all oftheir speeches, but its been a while since they have completed one.
We also learned about Ethos, Logos, and Pathos in our last speech,so we are reviewing that concept as well.
