The Tomcats hosted Memphis Northside Friday night in front of a packed gym. The Tomcats opened up playing strong defense from the blow of the fi rst whistle as the defense sparked the offense. The third quarter proved to be the turning point in the game as Haywood constantly pulled away with strong teamwork and pressure on the ball. There were a lot of open shots and turnovers created by the Tomcats as they defeated Northside with a fi nal score of 84 to 50. Jamarcus Comage was
the leading scorer of the night with 17 points. He adeptly worked the ball inside and drew many fouls as he broke down Northside’s defense. Dewayne Turner added 11 points and Tyler Boyd chipped in with 9 and a thunderous dunk in the fi nal quarter of the game.
The Tomcats have been rebuilding under Coach Ray Jones with this yearís team returning a lot of seniors from the JV team. They are a seasoned group of players that have played together for a while and their strength will be in defense.
