Mark Frisch, Owner & CEO Mark Frisch is the owner of the Jacksonville Armada Football Club. He is also the executive vice president of Beaver Street Fisheries™, a leading importer, manufacturer and distributor of quality frozen seafood products from the USA and around the world. He is the fourth generation of the Frisch family to lead at Beaver Street Fisheries, which was founded by his grandfather, Harry Frisch, and his great uncle Alfred in 1950. As part of his commitment to the community, Frisch has agreed to serve as the 2015 chair of JAXUSA Partnership, the regional economic development organization of JAX Chamber. Frisch also serves on the board of trustees for Jacksonville University, the board of directors for JAX Chamber, is a member of the Jacksonville Civic Council and the board of directors for Baptist Health System. In 2010, he was recognized as one of Jacksonville’s 40 Under 40 by the Jacksonville Business Journal. Frisch graduated from the University of Florida and from Bolles High School, and he and his wife, Meredith Chartrand, have three children, Lyla, Abby and Hannah.
Since teaming up with owner Mark Frisch to form Sunshine Soccer Group and the Jacksonville Armada FC in 2013, general manager Dario Sala has been at the forefront of creating the club’s blueprint for success. He has been responsible for crafting a roster that has allowed the club to be a strong contender in just its first year, challenging for the Spring Season championship until the ninth week. A former professional goalkeeper with more than 20 years of experience across the world’s most elite leagues, Sala played in more than 500 official games and 30 international matches, including the 2003 Copa Libertadores and leading FC Dallas to a first-place finish in 2006. At the 2003 Copa Libertadores, he was the least scored-upon goalkeeper and led his team through a historic run. After retiring from player soccer in 2010, Sala developed into one of America’s most sought-after player agents and talent scouts and founded a successful sports marketing company, Dario Sala Soccer, LLC.
Steve Livingstone came on board as the Armada’s first employee in October 2013 following 17 years of leadership in the NFL, the last eight of which he spent directing in the areas of business development, sales and marketing for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Prior to immigrating to Jacksonville in 2005 from Scotland, Livingstone was the team president and general manager of the Scottish Claymores in the NFL Europe League, where he attracted major partnerships for the NFL and grew the team’s fan base and attendance from 6,000 to more than 30,000 fans. Livingstone who hails from Glasgow, grew up avidly following the Scottish and English Premier and Champions Leagues, and was a season ticket owner with his home team, Glasgow Celtic F.C., and the Scotland National team. He directed the successful brand and competitive launch of the Armada FC, which debuted in front of 14,000 against the MLS Philadelphia Union at EverBank Field on February 7, 2015 and set a modern-day NASL regular season attendance record of 16,164 against FC Edmonton on April 4.

Armada FC & First Coast YMCA Launch Junior Armada FCIn an effort to promote health and fitness for Jacksonville’s youth, the Jacksonville Armada FC and the YMCA of Florida’s First Coast are joining forces to launch a new youth soccer initiative. First Coast kids now have the unique opportunity to don the jersey of their favorite local soccer club by becoming a member of the YMCA Junior Armada FC.
Youth soccer at the Y is for children ages 2-17 living in Duval, Baker, Clay, Nassau and St. Johns counties. The eight-week program begins in August, and registration is currently underway. The YMCA Junior Armada FC youth soccer program will offer participants the opportunity to interact with Armada FC players through clinics and practice visits throughout the season.
“We are thrilled to partner with such a great organization in the YMCA to promote athletics and health for Jacksonville kids,” said Jacksonville Armada FC President Steve Livingstone. “Many of our players began their soccer careers at a very young age, and we hope this new partnership promotes more kids to enroll in soccer. It is inspiring watching the Jacksonville community embrace this sport and the Armada FC.”
The Y is the starting point for many youth to learn about becoming and staying active, and developing healthy habits they’ll carry with them throughout their lives. Youth Sports programs at the First Coast YMCA place a priority on family involvement, healthy competition, team building and the value of participation over winning.
“Youth sports are critical in the development of a child, both physically and mentally,” said YMCA of Florida’s First Coast President and CEO Eric Mann. “We are fortunate to have Armada FC as a committed partner in helping our community’s youth develop not only motor skills, but life skills such as confidence, leadership, teamwork and discipline.”
11
Armada FC & First Coast YMCA Launch Junior Armada FC
YMCA Junior Armada FC program dates, participant ages and fees vary by location. Participation fees begin at $55 for First Coast YMCA members and $125 for non-members and include a YMCA Junior Armada FC uniform and an end of the season award.
“As a father myself, it has always been important to find ways to get kids involved in sports,” said Armada FC owner Mark Frisch. “Obviously, I think that soccer is a great choice. We really see the excitement growing around soccer, especially now that the U.S. Women’s National Team has just won the World Cup. Partnering with the YMCA gives us the opportunity to reach out to area kids to promote soccer and continue to bring our team to these communities. The team is excited to get the opportunity to be able to teach this community about the game.”
A volunteer soccer coach at the Y for more than five years, Matt Leonard has seen the children transform in front of his eyes. He sees the partnership as an opportunity for youth in Northeast Florida to connect with the game and create positive experiences.
“As a youth soccer coach, I see kids truly transform season to season and year after year,” said Leonard. “On day one, these kids may have never before kicked a ball and don’t have any idea how the game works. Depending on the age, that is not the most important thing. These kids are learning teamwork, sportsmanship and a love for the game. The opportunity to be a member of the Junior Armada FC is going to be an even more fulfilling experience. Getting the opportunity to watch and learn from professional players and having these plyer to teach them will give them more drive and develop their passion for the game.“

COACH’S NOTES
Head Coach Guillermo Hoyos As we head into our second home match of the NASL Fall Season, we come
prepared. We were blessed to have a week off to recuperate, recollect and prepare ourselves for tonight’s match. I can assure you that our team, as well as the coaching staff, have worked tirelessly to prepare for this competition and the rest of the season.
Minnesota United is a team that we are very familiar with at this point in the season. They have already defeated us twice, so we are well aware they have a very aggressive and talented squad. We know this team can score, and we will expect to see Christian Ramirez, Kalif Alhassan and possibly even their new import, Yago, pressing hard to get points on the board here in Jacksonville.
However, we know how they play, and we also know how to be resilient. We proved it against a New York team that tested us, and we intend to continue with the momentum we generated from that match. We intend to play an exciting game for our fans and yield a positive result against a tough and versatile team.
Tonight’s match will be measured on passion. The team that comes onto the field and shows that they want it more will walk away with the victory. I have stated many times that we are always looking for the victory. We will continue to play our style of football. With our fans in our home here at Community First Park, we look forward to playing hard for you and delivering another three points.

‘Pepp Talk’ with Cole Pepper
The Armada Fall Season schedule has two interesting occurances. Twice, the team will play five home matches in a stretch of seven. And twice, they’ll play three straight on the road.
Jacksonville started the Fall Season by losing three straight away from the First Coast. But the return to Community First Park brought a notable victory, 1-0 over New York, handing the Cosmos their first NASL loss since last November. Tonight against Minnesota (one of the teams the Armada lost to on the road to start the Fall), the Boys in Blue have a chance to make a clear statement to the rest of the NASL. A win, and the league will take notice that Community First Park is arguably the toughest home venue to visit.
While the Armada are on the bottom of the overall league standings, only two victories separate Jacksonville from the top four, so post-season contention is very much in reach, but it has to start (or rather, continue) with the Armada handling their business at home.
One other interesting question to ponder: when will the Armada be at full strength? It could be this week. Only once this season (April 25 at Tampa Bay) has Jacksonville had all of its top players available. Players have missed time due to injuries, red cards and international duty. By the way, although the Armada lost that match to the Rowdies, they took a season-high 22 shots in that match and only a couple of massive saves by backup goalkeeper Matt Pickens in stoppage time kept the Armada from taking at least a point on the road.
This week, Keita is back off a red card, Millien is returning from Gold Cup action with Haiti and Matt Bahner and Marcos Flores hope to be back from leg injuries. If they both return, we will see the Armada playing at home at full strength for the first time ever. Now that’s an intriguing possibility.

When Armada FC forward Akeil Barrett came to train with the team in February, head coach Guillermo Hoyos knew he had a speedy forward that he would be able to depend on. The 23-year-old Jamaican footballer was selected 25th overall in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft by Orlando City SC fresh off a successful four-year college career split between two of the country’s most prestigious soccer programs, the University of Akron and University of Tulsa. After being waived by Orlando City, he was scooped up and signed to his first professional contract with the Armada. Barrett wants to bring his speed and agility to the frontline of Armada FC on a regular basis. With a streak of impressive performances and his first start of the season behind him, it seems as though there is a bright future ahead for the young prodigy.

Forward
7.31.2015Match day
Q: What is it about your speed that is working for the Armada right now?
“It is different for every situation. If it is a game that we really need a goal, then coach will probably bring me in because he trusts me
to create scoring chances. He knows I can dribble, and I think that is why he has been playing me lately. When I come in, I am just trying to give as much as I can.”
Q: What brought you to the United States for your college career?
“Akron’s coach (at the time), Caleb Porter, actually came to Jamaica, saw me play and really liked me. I didn’t get that much playing time my first year at Akron because they had so much talent and everything was new to me at the time. Usually, your first year is the most difficult. It was my first time living in the cold, in a different country and playing at a different level. That is why I ended up transferring to Tulsa.
They (Tulsa) saw me playing, liked me as well and offered me a scholarship (after I was released from my commitment to Akron). I got much more playing time there. It was really good for me.”
Q: Did playing alongside some of your friends in college who went on to become stars help you develop your style?
“If definitely improved everything for me. In Jamaica it is very different; soccer just isn’t as big. I think coming to the U.S. really helped me improve tactically. It really made a difference to be able to play with all those good players like Scott Caldwell, Wil Trapp, Chad Barson, Darren Mattocks, who is also a Jamaican, and of course Deandre Yedlin, who’s at Tottenham now. They’re all top players in the game, and we all still talk too.”
Q: You come from an island with some of the fastest runners on the planet. Are you a sprinter at heart?
My mom would always tell me that when I was little my dad bought me a basketball, and I never touched it. I loved kicking the basketball around but never touched it with my hands.
23
“Probably. I don’t know, but one of my very good friends, Warren Weir, came in third in the 200-meter dash at the London Olympics.
I usually try and just push the ball past defenders and outrun them. It is just easy for me because I can run so fast. It is natural for me to dribble really.”
Q: Why soccer and not track?
“Even growing up in Jamaica, I always loved soccer. It has just always been that way; I never really wanted to run track. Football is my real passion.
My mom would always tell me that when I was little my dad bought me a basketball, and I never touched it. I loved kicking the basketball around but never touched it with my hands. She always knew I would be a soccer player.”
Q: What do you want to accomplish with the Armada?
“It would be nice to be one of the best players in the league. Score some goals and help win some games. I think this team is going places. The guys are very supportive of me. We all want to help each other succeed. So it is the perfect situation for me right now.”
QUICK FACTS:Akeil BarrettBarrett was selected 25th overall in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft by Orlando City, after a standout college career at Tulsa University where he scored six goals in 12 starts and made the AAC First Team in 2014. A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Barrett scored an astounding 52 goals, including 15 game-winners, and 37 assists at Calabar High School in his hometown.
FUN FACTS:Q: Which character would you be from Cool Runnings if you could be one?
“It would probably have to be Junior, because ‘he sees pride, he sees power and he doesn’t take nothing off nobody!’”

MINNESOTA UNITED FCMinnesota entered the North American Soccer League upon its inception as NSC Minnesota in 2010 and went through a variety of names and ownership groups before the former Chairman and CEO of United Health Group, Dr. Bill McGuire, purchased the club and rebranded it as Minnesota United FC in 2013. The club won the NASL Championship in 2011, its second season in the league, and was known as in the NSC Minnesota Stars.
The team’s oldest and most dedicated supporters group, the Dark Clouds, cast a shadow over every Minnesota United match and host a charity initiative called “Silver Lining.” The team also has a fairly-heated rivalry with FC Edmonton called the Flyover Cup because of the flight path and geographic location.
While Minnesota has been making headlines lately as officially becoming the next Major League Soccer expansion franchise, the Loons still have three more seasons to contend in the North American Soccer League.
MATCHUP HISTORYTonight’s matchup will be the third and final regular season matchup between the two sides in 2015, as well as the Loons’ first appearance in downtown Jacksonville at Community First Park. The previous two meetings saw United top the Armada FC (3-2 on May 23 and 4-0 on June 15).
While Minnesota boasts one of the top backlines in the NASL, the team focused a lot of its offseason attention on bolstering the depth of its midfield. Even with with the departure of star midfielder Miguel Ibarra to Liga MX side Club León, the Loons are still flush with striking power, led by 2014 NASL Golden Boot winner Christian Ramirez, NASL all-time leading scorer Pablo Campos and Kalif Alhassan, who arrived from the Portland Timbers in the offseason. The Loons have also added Brazilian midfielder Yago Silva on loan from Club Vasco da Gama to help fill any gap left by Ibarra’s departure.
While United remains in contention for the 2015 Fall Season title and in a favorable spot in the combined standings, three points will help solidify the team’s spot among the top-of-the-table dwellers. Known for an intense counterattack with a deep frontline, fans can expect to see the Loons use that approach against the Armada.

BOB’S BOOTROOM with Bob Veal
One thing you can say about the Armada is that they are determined. With four key players missing, they remained focused and mixed up their tactics to hand the New York Cosmos their first loss of the NASL season.
We saw a different series of plays and tactical formations during the win. The Armada showed an ability to play from the back and slow the game down when they wanted. They also, when needed, showed they could play fast, direct football from the back, getting the ball forward quickly to force the Cosmos to play on their heels. The Armada, at times, have played some very good one-touch and two-touch football in the middle of the field. These plays were greatly appreciated by the fan base.
The Armada showed that they were also very capable of playing the system of, “Park the Bus,” “Italian Defense,” “Nine players behind the ball;” whatever term you use for packing out your defense to shut out your opponent.
Behind all these plays, tactics and formations, we witnessed an outstanding goalkeeping performance by David Sierra.
As the Armada look to tonight’s match against Minnesota United and ahead to the remainder of the Fall Season, they can hold their heads high with the knowledge that they have made a huge impact on the NASL in their inaugural season. As the coaches and the team understand more fully the styles and tactics their opponents use, they can adapt plays and tactics to win games. No more so than tonight’s game, after the recent 4-0 loss to the Loons, the Armada will learn from that loss and take revenge with a home win in front of the extremely supportive home fan base.
With a more-rounded but still true to the system playbook, we can look forward to the next few months of exciting attacking and when needed, a sound, defensive style of football. With the results, we know this team is capable of achieving.
