WELCOME The Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy launched its initiative in Food and Nutrition Entrepreneurship to help catalyze a culture of innovation and discovery within our community. The program includes a curriculum covering the theory and practice of entrepreneurship, and leads students through topics such as ideation, competitive analysis, market sizing, business plan development, financial and legal issues, and pitch development. A critical component of this effort is hands-on experience in classes, workshops, and internships as well as mentoring from our diverse
array of Entrepreneurship Advisors.
With the possession of this entrepreneurial skill set, Friedman students can move forward in building their own businesses, whether for profit, in non-governmental organizations or social and nonprofit ventures. We are confident their entrepreneurial work will contribute to the generation of novel solutions to the global nutrition crisis and help transform our food system to
become more healthy, sustainable, and equitable.
The Tufts Food and Nutrition Entrepreneurship Competition is an annual ideation challenge sponsored by the Friedman School in collaboration with Tufts Gordon Institute and open to all Tufts students, alumni, staff, and faculty. The competition is part of our larger effort to create an ecosystem of food innovation in which the Tufts community can come together with advisors, companies, and investors to support the goal of better nutrition for all. Indeed, the greater Boston area is now home to a growing number of food and agriculture entrepreneurial efforts that are attracting new
venture capital to our region.
We are excited that you are able to join us for this year’s Tufts Food and Nutrition Entrepreneurship Competition. Please sit back and get ready to hear about eight great ideas, and don’t forget to cast
your audience choice vote at the end of the pitches.
