Course Overview Thisapprenticeshipprogrammeincludesstudyingtowardstwoprincipalqualifications:Level4NVQExtendedDiplomainEngineeringwhichisdeliveredintheworkplace,andeithertheHNCinManufacturingEngineeringorHNCinElectricalandElectronicEngineeringwhichiscompletedduringdayreleaseatcollege.
Theapprenticewilldeveloptheskillsandknowledgenecessaryforasuccessfulcareerinoneofthefollowingengineeringdisciplines:mechanical,electrical,electronic,ormaintenance.
Theywilllearntechnicalknowledgethatwillenabletheapprenticetodevelopanin-depthknowledgewhichwillthenbeappliedinpracticaltasks,ensuringtheapprenticecanperformrequiredtasksintheworkplacetomeetbusinessexpectations.
Studentswillbecomecompetentwhenperformingarangeofengineeringoperations,aswellasbeabletocompleteresearch,design,development,andimprovementtasksrelatedtotheirspecificrolesintheworkplace.
Someofthecorecompetenciestheapprenticewilllearninclude:complyingwithstatutoryregulationsandorganisationalsafetyrequirements,planningandmanagingaproject,solvingengineeringproblems,producingelectricalorelectronicengineeringdrawingsusingaCADsystem,maintainingmechanicaldevicesandequipment,building,supportingandmanagingateamandensuringcompliancewithlegal,regulatory,ethicalandsocialrequirements.
Anapprenticecanbeaneworexistingemployee.
ApprenticeshipsareopentoanyonelivinginEnglandovertheageof16andnotinfull-timeeducation.

Aspartofthisapprenticeshipprogramme,theapprenticewilllearnandworkontheemployerpremises,completingtasksforportfoliobuildingandpracticalrole-relatedprojects.
Off-the-job funding rule Thefundingrulesstatethat20%oftheapprentice’stimemustbespentcompletingoff-the-jobtraining,thismayincludedifferentactivitiesandismeasuredoverthecourseoftheapprenticeship.
Apprenticeswillberequiredtoundertaketheequivalentofaday’strainingtomeetthisfundingrule.ThiscouldbeeitherattendingBCoT,shadowinganotherdepartment/role,onlinelearning,ormanufacturertrainingandwillbefullydocumentedintheirportfolio.Duration
Thisapprenticeshiptakesapproximately24monthsfortheapprenticetofullycomplete.
Entry requirements EmployerssettheirownentryspecificationbuttheapprenticewillcompleteMathsandEnglishfunctionalskillsiftheydidnotachieveGCSEgrade4orabove.
Progression opportunities Uponcompletionoftheapprenticeship,withthetransferableskillsgained,theapprenticecanprogressfurtherandapplytheirknowledgewithinvariousengineering roles across many sectors
Theapprenticemayalsoprogresstheirtrainingfurtherandundertakeadegreelevelengineeringqualification,orworktowardsotherrelevantqualificationsrelatedtotheirroleintheworkplace.
