• We are a group of skilled Greenwich and Lewisham residents who share a vision;
A low carbon future in which everyone can access affordable energy to meet their needs and a has voice in how that is produced
• The first public meeting was in March 2014 followed shortly after by the first directors’ meeting
• We registered as a Community Benefit Society in June 2014• Approximately 4000 volunteer hours spent to date on the project• The team includes professionals in the fields of finance, solar
engineering, community engagement, campaigns and marketing.
Our Mission
We believe that communities, regardless of financial resources, should have access to the
benefits of affordable low carbon technologies. We collaborate with local residents,
businesses and organisations to reduce fuel poverty, and develop financially, socially and
environmentally sustainable projects which increase energy efficiency, produce local
renewable energy and accelerate the transition to a low carbon energy generation system.
SELCE raises £250,000 from investors through a Community
Share Offer
A government subsidy known as the Feed in Tariff is paid to SELCE
for every unit of electricity generated (regardless of
whether it is used by the school).
£ The Schools will purchase solar electricity from SELCE at less than
half the cost of electricity from the grid
Any surplus electricity is exported to the grid and sold to an
electricity supplier.
This is used to purchase 200kWp of solar panels to go on the roofs of 4 local schools
The returns from The Feed in Tariff allow SELCE to
•Repay investors with a 4% return•Pay for maintenance, repair and
insurance•Put a small fund aside for fighting
fuel poverty in SE London
The Project
• We are raising finance to install solar arrays on 4 Schools;
• Mulgrave School and Children’s Centre;
• Charlton Park Academy
• Horniman Primary
• Ashmead School
• Each of these installations are 49.5 kWp in size. SELCE will own and operate
the systems
• 3 sites were pre-registered in Dec 2014 and the last in Aug 2015.
• GHG Energy will install the panels at all sites.
• GHG estimate that each installation will take one weekend

Schools will benefit from
reduced electricity costs. Taken
together they will save £358,000 over 20 years
Solar panels and the accompanying display will be used
as a tool for environmental
