Lent is one of the most important times of the year for many Christians. Different people observe Lent in different ways; some by giving up something and others by choosing to do something positive. Would you consider offering one hour a week during Lent to visit someone who is isolated? At SVP we try to hold out a hand to anyone in need but demand has exceeded our members’ available time. If you think you could consider visiting someone with one of our members please contact the Parish Office or Mary Miles. Date of next meeting Tuesday 14 March at 7.45pm in OLSP Parish Office. Mary There will be a second collection on 19 March, in all our churches for flowers to decorate our churches for Easter.
Our Lady & St Patrick’s School News
As Lent begins, we remember that many children around the world don’t have basic learning tools such as pencils and notepads. Throughout Lent, we are hoping as a school to remember and support children who are not as lucky as us. To do this, we are taking part in ‘The Backpack Project’ run by the charity ‘Mary’s Meals’. We will collect donated educational items which will be sent to children in Malawi who really need them. This will help them gain an education that can help them escape from poverty when they grow up. For some children, the backpacks that we send will be the only gift they’ll have ever had. If you and your children would like to participate please consider sending any of the following items into school over the next four weeks of Lent. Second-hand donations are encouraged as long as they are in good condition. Please hand items to your child’s teacher or hand in to the front office. Shopping List - Backpack,
notepad, pencils, pens, crayons, eraser, ruler, sharpener, pencil case, towel, shorts or skirt (age 4-12 yrs), t-shirt or dress (age 4-12 yrs) flip flops or sandals (age 4-12 yrs), small ball, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, spoon. If any parishioners would like to support this worthy cause please leave your donations in the parish office or send to the school. The Friends of Our Lady & St Patrick School are organising an Easter Fayre on Wednesday 19 April 3 – 5pm. They would welcome helpers to run stalls. If you are able to help, even for a short time, please contact Chris Bloor 01626 872249
