FDOT Construction Projects
At our February meeting, we heard
from the FDOT on two road projects
that will affect Edgewood. They are
finishing up the first construction
project on SW 4th Avenue -- changing
the width of the lanes, as well as
adding bike lines.
The second project is on SR 84 and
SW 15th Avenue, which began with
many of the trees being removed in
preparation for construction at this
intersection. The construction project
is expected to begin this Spring and be
completed in the Fall. The project
includes building a new dedicated U-
turn lane for eastbound SR 84 traffic at

St. Jerome’s Church grounds
Now is the time to begin your spring-cleaning of your
home and garage! The Edgewood Civic Association
is having their very first community yard sale being
held at St. Jerome’s Church. The cost to rent a space
is $10.00 ($5.00 extra to use one of our tables). We
will be having a space with a volunteer to help sell
any items residents want to donate for us to sell. The
money from whatever items are sold in the donation
space, will go back to ECA to be used towards our
new roof fund. Contact Ernestine Scharf (send email
to [email protected] or call 954-816-
3004) for more information or to reserve a space or
table.
Neighborhood Support Night — 2017
This City of Fort Lauderdale Event was held on February
8, 2017 at the parking garage area just outside of City
Hall. It was well attended and had great giveaways for
residents. Edgewood participated by volunteering for sus-
tainability in passing out Florida Friendly trees and earn-
ing Green Your Routine points that equal money back for
our association at the end of the year. People who came
out met Stanley C Panther, fire-fighters, policemen and
were able to pet the horses from the city’s Mounted Patrol
Unit. Many local businesses were there and provided free
hotdogs, water, popcorn, cupcakes, ice cream and much
more! The atmosphere was fun, high energy, filled with
jazzy music, interactive displays and a ton of neighborly
fun.

Police Report from the ECA Meeting on February 1,
2017
Thers were the following stats on burglaries: January
2017: 1 residential, 2 business, 2 auto, 2 robbery, and
1 recovered vehicle. December 2016: 1 residential, 1
business, 6 auto, 1 robbery, and 2 stolen vehicles. He
said our stats are better than most neighborhoods. He
also commended us on attendance to our neighbor-
hood association meetings, stating that some only
have the president and the police officer in attend-
ance. They have identified 7-11 as a hot spot and are
trying to get canine units to do random sweeps to
clean up the neighborhood. As always, he advised
people to be diligent, don’t leave valuables in plain
sight within your car, and lock your doors all the
time. If possible, install cameras and alarms on your
homes.
