7 Quotational Lessons FOR THE NEW TEACHER
Nickkisha Farrell
A TEACHER ‘S HEART
We are what we teach! • Before I walk into the classroom, take out my lesson plan and
proceed with the open curriculum, there is already another lesson in progress, one which focuses on my character, involuntarily imposed upon my students.
• Before a teacher enters the classroom preparation is key and that preparation entails far more than the physical space, far more than the open curriculum, it includes the mindset, character and attitude of the teacher.
A Teacher's Heart
"A teacher is one who makes himself progressively unnecessary."
-- Thomas Carruthers
Expecting all students the same age to learn from the
same materials is like expecting all students the
same age to wear the same size clothing.
-- Madeline Hunter (1916-1994)
All men who have turned out worth anything have had the chief hand in their own education.
-- Walter Scott (1771-1832)
I never teach my pupils; I only attempt to provide the conditions in which
they can learn. -- Albert Einstein (1879-1955)
I am convinced that the way to provide this environment of learning is to provide one that caters both individually and collectively to the learner.
Effective Teachers Plan Carefully
Students quickly detect when a teacher is prepared and the more consistently prepared you are the more they tend to trust you. Planning a class helps students feel at ease.
Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting
of a fire. -- William Butler Yeats
