ATTENDANCE
At Ossett Academy we believe that every day counts in students’ education. Regular attendance is essential for young people to achieve their maximum potential. Students should attend the Academy each day and on time (the Academy day starts at 8.30am) in order to ensure that they have a regular routine to support them with their learning. It also prepares them for the world of work where attendance and punctuality are crucial.
Good attendance and punctuality are part of the regular discussions between form tutors and students and they play a significant role in our Rewards system. Good attendance and punctuality are rewarded through the allocation of positive points towards the student’s cumulative total, letters sent home to parents and students are eligible for a prize through the Attendance Weekly Lottery draw.
In order to recognise all those students who have 100% attendance, a weekly Attendance Lottery draw is carried out during assembly, for each year group. All the names of students who had 100% attendance the week before , are entered in a draw and the winner receives a shop voucher.
Good attendance is also considered for any reward trips and activities.

HOW WILL I BE REWARDED IN THE ACADEMY?
CERTIFICATES
Students are rewarded with achievement points during lessons and during form time. The cumulative total of the achievement points is closely monitored by the Learning Leaders and form tutors.
Once students reach a specific threshold they are presented with a certificate for that level by either their form tutor, their Learning Leader, their SLT link , the Principal or a Governor, in recognition of their good behaviour.
Each certificate is also complemented by another reward varying from a note in the planner to entry for a prize draw to telephone contact home to presentation in assemblies.
POSTCARDS
As students accumulate a specific number of Achievement points, postcards will be sent home by Learning Leaders and SLT.
In addition, curriculum areas may also send subject specific postcards home as a recognition of achievement / effort of students in their areas.
TELEPHONE CALLS
Once per term, Form Tutors select 3 students who have shown exceptional effort or exceptional improvement in behaviour and attendance.
The Learning Leader or Senior Leadership Team will telephone parents / write to them to commend them.
ASSEMBLIES
Every week each year group has an assembly on a particular theme. Praise assemblies are usually held to- wards the end of each half term to celebrate students’ achievements. Throughout the academic year, students will be recognised in these praise assemblies for attendance, effort, achievement and contributions to Academy life. Various rewards will be handed out by each Learning Leader to a variety of students.

INCLUSION PROVISION
ISOLATION
Students are placed in Isolation as a pre-booked sanction.
Students in Isolation must register with their form tutor first, then make their way to the Isolation room. Students should not arrive before 8:50am and will finish school at 3:30pm
Only SLT or LL/AO can book students in Isolation.
Students in Isolation are there either as a pre-booked sanction or during the day from the Removals room following decision of LL/SLT. Letters are sent home about the Isolation.
When students arrive , they should place their bags and coats on the overhead shelf and their planner on the desk, opened on the correct day.
Students returning from an exclusion also spend 1 day in Isolation, as part of their re-integration process.
Whilst in Isolation students must comply with Isolation rules. If not, they will be marked with a cross (X) for every instance of non-compliance. When a student accumulates 4 crosses, they repeat the day in Isolation. Inclusion staff will check the Isolation register at the end of the day and if appropriate they will rebook a student for the following day, record it in SIMS and notify the relevant AO.
If students walk out of Isolation, they repeat the day in Isolation.
If students repeat Isolation 3 times in a week, parents come in for a meeting.
Whilst students are in Isolation, they order their lunch which is brought over for them or they bring a packed lunch.
REMOVALS ROOM
If students have to be removed from the Dept On Call room, they are taken to the Removals Room by the AO On Call. The removal from the original lesson has already triggered an automatic detention the fol- lowing day. Removal from the Dept OnCall room is an automatic 1 day in Isolation. When a student arrives at the Removals Room:
1. An Achievement Officer / Learning Leader will interview the student about the incident and the Removals Room register will be filled in.
2. Unless a more serious sanction is needed, the AO/LL will record the removal in SIMS/Class Charts (N5-Removals Room) and action as Isolation.
3. Then the student will be booked in the Isolation register for the following day
4. Student returns to his/her next lesson.
If further serious sanctions are deemed appropriate immediately, LL and SLT to make a decision. The student remains in the Removals Room until decision is made. The student will return to the next lesson unless it’s necessary to be isolated.
