ADORATION ADORACIÓN
Thursday / Jueves 9AM to 6PM
The fourth week of Advent has come and the calling of Christmas day is ever closer in our hearts and minds. Many of our school children have begun their Christmas holiday and university students are beginning once more to arrive at home. Families are packing and looking towards the travel to visit friends and relatives both near and far. It is a time of celebration and encounter.
Our final Advent question touches upon this encounter: Recall a dark time when you encountered God. Even though you would have never chosen it, what were the blessings? Just as the shepherds in the field did not expect to encounter God that night as they tended their flocks and shared stories around the fires, we too are called to encounter God in the many blessings of life in both friend and stranger.
This is happens in a unique way in our Sunday liturgies (the Mass) and in our activities in and around the parish. Next Sunday, Christmas Day, will give us the opportunity to encounter Jesus, may be not in the “dark time” but the blessings discovered in the fullness of the church. (Continued page 5...)
amigos y familiares cercanos y lejanos.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR
(Pastor’s Notes Continued form page 1)
We will have many visitors who come to share in the good news of Jesus’ birth and we are called to be grace-ful in our welcome. It may mean we don’t have our regular pew, the parking lot will be crowded and as we pray the joyful noise of many children will fill our parish. For this and all blessings we are grateful and give thanks to God in this encounter with the Body of Christ, the Church alive in the world.
Let us pray: Come, O Lord. Give me the courage to share my faith story with others with humility and re-spect. Help me to bear witness to your presence by being a loving and forgiving person. Amen.
God Bless, Fr. Mark

THE ADVENT WREATH Today, we lighted the fourth candle in the Advent Wreath. Traditionally, each of the four candles in the Advent Wreath have a deeper meaning:
♦ The 1st Sunday of Advent symbolizes Hope with the “Prophet’s Candle” reminding us that Jesus is coming.
♦ The 2nd Sunday of Advent symbolizes Faith with the “Bethlehem Candle” reminding us of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem.
♦ The 3rd Sunday of Advent symbolizes Joy with the “Shepherd’s Candle” reminding us of the Joy the world is experi-enced at the coming birth of Je-sus.
♦ The 4th Sunday of Advent symbolizes Peace with the “Angel’s Candle” reminding us of the message of the an-gels: “Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men.”
In the past weeks the children in the catechesis took home beautiful Advent Wreaths that they made in their

Why? Because Worldwide Marriage Encounter, for the seventh year in a row, is conducting the Longest Mar-ried Couple Project. What an opportunity to honor couples married 50, 60 or 70+ years! And just maybe a couple you know could be either the state or national winner. Winners will be honored during Valentine’s Day Week, 2017. Nominations are open now through January 10, 2017. The nomination process is simple - just email the couple’s names, wedding date and city they live in along with your contact information to [email protected]. It's that easy. Or, you can go to the wwmelmc.com website for more information.
