Welcome to Mission Municipal ForestEstablished in 1958

Devils Lake Trail

The District of Mission has the unique status of being one of only two municipalities involved in managing a Tree Farm License (TFL 26), a tenure granted by the Province for the management of various forest resources. There are many benefits of a Municipal Forest including local control of the forest resource, community stability through employment and revenue from forest operations.

The total area of the Mission Municipal Forest is 10,414 hectares or about 26 times the size of Stanley Park. The Forest is not designated as a park, it is a “working forest” where many aspects of multiple uses can be observed such as forest recreation, sustainable logging, protecting wildlife habitat, maintaining water quality, and other forest management activities.

District of Mission General Park & Trail GuidelinesParks are open for you to enjoy:• May 1 - Sep 30 (Dawn until dusk)• Oct 1-Apri 30 (7:00am - 9:00pm)

To help protect you and the park:• Beware of wildlife• Wear proper footwear & clothing• Do not climb on trail railings• Keep dogs leashed & remove droppings• Keep the park clean & litter free• Motorized vehicles are not

permitted• Park use is regulated

(bylaw 5001-2008)• Smoking is prohibited

(bylaw 5143-2010)

Mission Municipal Forest Trail Information• Please respect the many other users on the trails at all times.• Pack your garbage out and leash and pick up after your dog

to keep the areas clean for your return visit & to prevent bears from visiting the area.

• Refrain from shortcutting on trails because it causes erosion and destroys the vegetation.

There are many unmarked trails that are not built or maintained by the District of Mission. Our forestry trails are signed at the trail head and marked throughout the route with orange reflective markers. Please avoid any unmarked trails if you are not familiar with the area as you could quickly become lost.

Off Leash Dog AreaThe Mission Off Leash Dog area is located on the north end of Centennial Park off 14th Ave between Grand & Talbut Streets. Dog owners are asked to adhere to the following guidelines when using the area. At all times:

• Dogs must be under firm voice & visual control.• Dog owners must be in attendance.• Dog owners must have a leash visible.• Dogs must display current dog license.• Dogs must be vaccinated.• Dog owners are required by law to pick up

their dog`s feces and to properly dispose of them in the garbage cans provided.

• Female dogs in heat are not allowed.• Dogs must be on leash before & after use.• Dog owners are permitted a max of 3 dogs.• Puppies must be 4 months old.

Bear/Cougar Safety• Respect all bears. They can run as fast as horses and can climb

trees. They will aggressively defend their food and young.• Never approach or attempt to feed a bear.• Never surprise a bear or cougar. Make your presence known

by talking loudly, clapping or occasionally calling out.• Keep children and pets close at all times.• Visit wildsafebc.com for more information.
