Workshop Day 2 Theme: “Raphoe -‐ Small Heritage Town Challenges”, workshop and tour examining the conservation, management and development of a small heritage town. Challenge: County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland is just across the border from Derry. As part of the tour/workshop we will look at Raphoe, a small town situated in the agrarian heartland of east Donegal which has a rich built, cultural and ecclesiastical heritage. The potential of Raphoe’s heritage to contribute to its sense of place, its quality of life and the socio-‐economic development of the town will be considered. Study tour 10.30-‐18.30 “The Causeway Coastal Trail”. Travel the Causeway Coast by coach, with stops in Derry, Dunluce, Giant’s
Causeway and Carrickfergus Castle. The Causeway is part of the Causeway Coastal Trail, linking the Walled City of Derry in the west with Carrickfergus Castle in the east. Other key heritage sites along the route are Dunluce Castle and the Giant’s Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site Travelling by coach, this study tour will stop at Dunluce, the Causeway and Carrickfergus where facilitators will give short introductions to the opportunities and challenges faced by each site.
