Top RAV4 Advantages Over Forester
february 2012
Subaru is no stranger to the all-wheel-drive compact-car market. It has been building small, light, all-weather vehicles for decades. However, Subarus have tended to be traditional passenger cars with added traction. The most recent Forester is a step in the SUV direction, but it still looks a bit like a traditional wagon.
RAV4 has real SUV characteristics Forester can’t match, but the big story is that Toyota has increased the value of its Upgrade Value Package QT. With its discount increased to almost 50% for 2012, QT is an unbeatable value and an appealing way to get mid-grade equipment for closer to base-grade price.
2012 RAV4 vs. 2012 Subaru Forester
•Ease of additional cargo access RAV4 features one-touch fold-flat second-row seating, which Forester can’t equal. Simply pull a lever and lower the second-row seat backs when additional cargo space is needed.
PRAcTicAl DRiVing ADVAnTAgEs Compact SUVs spend most of their time on road, but they need to be ready for weekend adventures. RAV4 covers both bases better than Forester.
•Four-wheel drive with a “lock” feature For people who need four-wheel drive, RAV4 doesn’t skimp. There’s four-wheel traction control plus a 4WD “Lock” features for super-slippery surfaces.
•longer wheelbase For on-road driving, a longer wheelbase and wider track give RAV4 a nice, planted feel. Forester has a shorter, narrower chassis.
TOyOTA VAluE Toyota has a golden reputation for value, and RAV4 is a great example why. There’s evidence that RAV4 costs less to own and maintain than Forester.
•“smartchoice” winner 2012 RAV4 was named a SmartChoice winner in two categories, which is two categories more than 2012 Forester won.
•lower cost of ownership 2011 RAV4 has a lower predicted five-year cost of ownership compared with 2011 Forester. This could mean thousands more dollars in your pocket over the years.
