Supplementary Figure S4. Absence of effect of ruthenium red on respiratory control ratio (RCR) in isolated heart mitochondria. RCR values (ratio of oxygen uptake rate under state 3 condition –presence of ADP- to oxygen uptake rate after ADP exhaustion) and ADP/O values (amount of oxygen consumed for a limited ADP addition) did not differ in the absence (trace a) or presence (trace b) of ruthenium red. Conditions for polarographic assays as described under Material and methods. Numbers along the traces are nmol O2 consumed min-1 mg-1 protein.
