19TH JULY 2019 EDITION 72
Priesthorpe Lane, Pudsey, Leeds, LS28 5SG
www.priesthorpe.org @cooppriesthorpe T: 0113 2574115
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome to what is our final Newsletter of another incredibly busy
academic year.
Thank you for all your continued support in making sure we work
together, as a community, to develop our students socially and
emotionally, as well as academically.
On that note, on the 15th and 22nd August, we will welcome many
of you, with your sons and daughters, as they come to our Year 13
and Year 11 Results Days, respectively. These reflect 5 and 7 year
journeys, to key milestones in students' educational journeys;
landmark moments.
Examination outcomes are a key component of opening doors to
further opportunities, be they further or higher education,
employment, or Apprenticeships. Whilst exam results are very
important, they do not define an individual, nor should they. On
Wednesday this week, at our annual Presentation Evening, staff
delivered citations on behalf of dozens of our students, for a wide
variety of reasons. The common thread running through the
messages was the 'behaviours' students have shown, consistently,
over the course of this academic year and beyond, including
resilience, passion, and optimism. These are the bedrock of being
not simply great students, but great people, who make positive
contributions to their own communities and often beyond.
I hope you all have a great summer with family and friends.
Mr Martin Blacoe, Principal.

Presentation Evening
Last night we held our yearly Presentation Evening. This is an extremely
important event where we celebrate the achievements and hard
work of our students. Awards and certificates were handed out to
many of our students who have overcome challenges and exceeded
expectations over the past 12 months.
Our Principal, Mr Blacoe said; “I sat last night brimming with pride at
the citations delivered by staff, which as Chris Tomlinson stated, were
filled with passion. I absolutely believe that Priesthorpe and our
community are unique. The warmth of welcome, levels of empathy,
and sheer joy in recognising students' efforts, achievements, and the
challenges they've overcome to realise them, are second to none.”

Our Y10 Geography Students Visit Leeds
Our Y10 Geography students have been out and about this
week. They have visited Leeds City Centre to investigate the
extent to which urban change in Leeds is creating social,
economic and environmental opportunities. Fieldwork is a
compulsory element of the students' GCSE geography studies. In
September, they will present and analyse the data collected
before drawing a conclusion. In October, students will start their
second fieldwork investigation in a rural environment.

Les Miserables Trip
Mrs Brant and Mr Berry took 30 of our students on a trip to The Alambra
Theatre in Bradford earlier this week. Mrs Brant secured a grant from
ArtForms back in October and used this to fund the trip.
Y8 Workshop
Earlier this week some of our Y8 students were involved in a workshop
hosted by the People’s History Museum and the Coop. Mr Durant
helped organised the session and was very happy with how the
students performed and got involved.

The Deep, Hull
A number our Y7 & Y8 students were treated to a trip to The
Deep, Hull earlier this week. Students were nominated by their
teachers for high/excellent Engagement in Learning (EIL). The
reward trip was a huge success and staff and students all had a
brilliant time.

Uniform Expectations for September 2019
At Co-op Academy Priesthorpe our high expectations are reflected in our uniform. We aim to have a
uniform that is sensible, practical and easily maintained; and one that students will wear with pride.
The uniform makes an important contribution to our Academy ethos and values.
Students are expected to be in full academy uniform when they enter the school building before the
start of the school day.
Uniform (Years 7 – 11)
Compulsory
Black Leather Shoes. – No trainers or pumps are allowed.
Black Skirt – This must be knee length and not fitted
Or
Trousers, which must be tailored, and appropriate for school wear. Fashion-style trousers for example
those with stretch fabrics are not acceptable. Please be aware that ‘skinny’ style trousers that are
tight along the leg and ankle are not acceptable.
Plain White Shirt/Blouse – This must have a top button
Co-op Academy Priesthorpe Black Blazer with Academy logo in white.
Co-op Academy Priesthorpe Tie – The tie stripe must be in the student’s House colour.
Optional
Black V Neck Jumper – This must have the academy logo.
All of the above can be purchased at Rawcliffe’s Ltd, Bradford or Whittaker’s Schoolwear, Farsley we
would advise that all uniform and PE kit is clearly labelled with your child’s name.
School Bags
School bags must be big enough to enable students to carry their planner, A4 size exercise books
and any other equipment needed for the day, such as PE kit, and pencil cases.
Hair
Hair should be a natural colour. Colours such as blue, pink, green etc. are not acceptable. Designs
and patterns are also not permitted.
Jewellery
Students are allowed to wear stud type earrings only. Nose studs/rings are not allowed in school. Any
other body piercings should not be on show.
Make Up and Nails
Make up should be discreet and kept to a minimum.
False eye lashes must not be worn in school.
False nails must not be worn in school.
Mobile Phones
Whilst students are allowed to bring mobile phones to school, they are not permitted to use them at
any point within the school building. This includes before and after the school day. Staff will not
accept responsibility for the recovery of items not permitted in school. Year Managers will keep the
item after a second confiscation and will only return it when a parent/carer comes into school to
collect it.
If a student refuses to hand their phone to a teacher, they will receive a Defiance code and a 1 hour
detention the following evening. The phone will then be confiscated, and a parent will be expected
to collect it.
Personal Equipment
It is expected that parents/carers provide students with a pen, pencil, ruler, and calculator as well as
other equipment for specific lessons.
Sanctions
If students arrive in inappropriate uniform, which does not follow the Academy’s uniform policy, they
will receive the following sanctions.
1st Uniform Code = Warning
2nd Uniform Code = Break Time Detention
3rd Uniform Code = Whole School 1 Hour Detention
4th Uniform Code = Academy Leadership Team Detention
