Vocabulario: El día de los muertos1. Los Angelitos – the souls of children who have died, “little
angels”.2. Las Calacas – whimsical skeleton figures that represent death.3. Las Calaveras – poems or songs written for the festival4. Las Calaveritas de azúcar – little sugar skulls5. La flor de cempazuchitl – the yellow marigold flower, a symbol of
death. In Nahuatl, it means the flower w/100 lives6. La iluminación – The lighting of many candles (las velas) to lead
the souls to their altars7. El Mole – the thick sauce made from chilis, seeds, herbs, spices,
chocolate and fruit8. Una Ofrenda – an offering set on the altar.9. El Pan de los muertos – bread of the dead10. El papel picado – colorful tissue paper with intricate designs cut
out.
