> Since 2009, smart community development that integrates energy, water, transport, etc. has been promoted in six regions in India through

inter-governmental cooperation.

- Dec. 2009: PM Hatoyama visited India; both PMs agreed on smart community development; JETRO-DMICDC MOU on cooperation concluded.

- Apr. 2010: METI Minister Naoshima visited India; MOU on cooperation concluded between the state government and consortiums of Japanese companies in the presence of

Commerce and Industry Minister Sharma.

- Since May 2011: Target expanded to six regions, including Neemrana as requested to Minister Kaieda, and feasibility studies conducted.

- Dec. 2011: Further support for particular three projects (seawater desalination in Gujarat, IPP in Maharashtra, solar thermal energy in Rajasthan) expressed during summit

meeting between PM Noda and PM Singh.

> Basic agreement was reached (and signed on March 22) on water supply in Asia’s largest seawater desalination project planned by

Hitachi’s consortium in Dahej, Gujarat, as the first project to be realized in the framework.
